We’ve been quiet over the summer, but we’re so excited to see campus coming back to life as students & faculty return and we gear up for the start of fall term! Happy Pride Month! Our dedicated Music Reference Team have assembled a Staff Picks display along our entryway that celebrates LGBTQIA+ musicians, including composers, performers, conductors, and q***r music scholarship. Come peruse the selections, and feel free to check out any that pique your interest!
What’s making our Douglass Room mascot, Robert the Plant, look lush and verdant? Why, hearing about the 2023 additions to the National Recording Registry at the , of course! This year’s inductees include the earliest recording of mariachi music, the Super Mario video game theme music, iconic songs by Queen Latifah, Madonna, Mariah Carey, and the Eurythmics— and 20 others, including Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”! The School of Music and Dance will be presenting the opera L'Italiana in Algeri by Rossini this Friday Feb17 and Sunday Feb19 of 2023 in Robinson Theater on Campus. The production includes choreography designed by our dear Music Librarian Ann Shaffer. Can't make it? Come to the Douglas Room and listen to some great recordings of the same opera in LP and CD format.
Our second Audio Production Studio orientation workshop is today, Feb 13, from 3-4 pm! This free 1-hour workshop, taught by audio production instructor Lance Miller of the , will introduce you to the equipment and software in our library audio production studios, how to set up for common recording, mixing, and editing scenarios, and best practices for working responsibly in these shared resource spaces. After completing the workshop, attendees will be approved to book studio time, and will receive their own individual access codes for entering the studios. We wish you all a relaxing Thanksgiving holiday weekend, with time for rest, good food, and time with family and friends. The Music Reference desk will be closing early today, Wednesday November 23, and will be closed Thursday and Friday this week. We’ll resume our regular desk hours next Monday. If you’re planning to come do some work in the Douglass Room over the weekend, please check library.uoregon.edu to see Knight Library’s adjusted hours over the holiday weekend.
Come and check out the "spooky materials" the Music Reference Desk team has put on display at the Douglass Room, on the third floor of the Knight Library. Listen to our scary CDs and LPs, our read our terrifying scores. Remember the Douglass Room is open when the Knight Library is Open, and the Music Reference Desk is open from 11am to 5pm.

We're offering three workshops this term on using our Audio Production Studios! Participants in each workshop will be authorized to reserve the studios for individual use, and will be able to have their own access code to get in. Each workshop will be taught by Jon Bellona, Senior Instructor of Audio Production in the School of Music and Dance.
