We are two seasoned Army spouses who hope to empower, encourage, and educate military spouses as we navigate the highs and lows of military family life.
It’s the last few minutes of The Month of the Military Child!
So cheers to YOU, The Military Child! You experienced more change in your first decade than most adults ever do. You’ve said innumerable goodbyes, been thrust into far too many unasked-for new situations, and supported your family in ways most children are never asked to.
We are so incredibly grateful ❤️
I love this picture of my daughter (left), saying goodbye to one of her favorite people in Savannah. At the time it really hurt my heart because I honestly wasn’t sure if we’d see them again; but lo and behold, five years later I got a phone call from this sweet friend’s mom asking how I felt about Fort Polk 😂. Reunion pic in comments!
Memories stop embarrassing meeeee 😭

Bonus if you’re old enough that they start with “is” 💀

Letting them help in the planning has been huge for us! A little kid in the middle of big move has so little control over their environment! Little things like letting them pick lunch can go a long way!
The best part of a PCS is getting to explore new places and so often we hear, “I can’t because i have little kids.” We get it, really. We have 8 put together 😂 But, experiencing adventures with little children can be both rewarding and intimidating. Here’s 8 things we try to incorporate into exploring our new duty station
1. Choose Age-Appropriate Adventures: Opt for activities that are suitable for their age and abilities. We, personally, wouldn’t want to hike The Manitou Incline with 8 kids.
2. Involve Them in Planning: Let them have a say in planning the adventure. Discuss options and let them choose from a range of activities. This helps them feel involved and excited about the experience. This could be as simple as picking from McDonald’s and Burger King.
3. Educational Opportunities: Turn the adventure into a learning experience. Teach them about the environment, wildlife, or historical significance of the place you're visiting. We were able to show them the White House when we were stationed in North Carolina.
4. Embrace Spontaneity: Be open to unexpected moments and detours. Children have a knack for finding joy in simple things, so don't be afraid to deviate from the original plan.
5. Capture Memories: Document the adventure with photos or a travel journal. Encourage kids to draw or write about their experiences, which can be cherished later. As always, snap those photos. Our service members miss a lot and this is my favorite way to keep them involved.
6. Pack Essentials: Ensure you have all necessary supplies, including snacks, water, sunscreen, and back up clothing. Did we say snacks? 😂
7. Encourage Curiosity: Embrace their curiosity and allow them to explore. Answer their questions and encourage them to ask more.
8. Quality Time: Especially if your service member is going along! Use this opportunity to bond and create lasting memories.
Remember, the goal is to have fun, create lasting memories, and foster a love for exploration in the little ones. Because in the life we live, it comes with the territory. ✈️

Over a QUARTER of US military families have experienced food insecurity in recent years.
If you are currently in this boat, you are not alone and there are resources for you! Here are just a few of them:
-Chaplains are an invaluable resource. Stop by your unit chaplain’s office or call your posts’ chaplain duty phone. They may be able to provide you with food or a commissary gift card to help you make it to payday.
-Army Community Services offices on every post have a staff of people who are knowledgeable about the resources in your community.
-Army Emergency Relief provides interest-free loans and no-obligation grants to servicemembers experiencing a financial crisis or certain kinds of expenses. You may be eligible, so apply on their website if you have a need.
-Call 211! This number will connect you with local community resources available to you outside of the military.
-Apply for SNAP and WIC! Don’t assume you’re ineligible; many military families qualify!
What other resources are available for military families in your area?
The hardest battles go to the strongest soldiers. Hooah. 🙏🏻🫶🏻
