Juniors, open, vets, supers and masters for both women and men. The second Somerset 525 Virtual Rowing Championship will be taking place over three consecutive days, from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th March 2022, hosted by Portishead Pilot Gig Club. You can enter here

Same winning format as last year, competitors, rowing from home, club, or gym, will have the opportunity to enter one, two or three of following individual and team races:

500m sprint (individual only)
525m (juniors only)
2K (individual and team option)
5K (individual and team option)

Age categories are:
Open Ladies and Men (18-39)
Ladies and Men’s Vets (40-49)
Ladies and Men’s Supers (50 plus)
Masters (60 plus)
Juniors ages 12-17
Para / Adaptive : PR1 / AR1, PR2 / AR2, PR3 (PD) / AR3-PD

There are individual and team races (ladies, men and mixed) for both the 2K and the 5K plus there will be an overall trophy for the fastest lady and man from all competitors who compete in all three races. Teams will be made up of four rowers, from any age category. Mixed teams are allowed but must consist of two men and two women, though we will allow three women and one man. There will be a trophy for Men’s, Ladies and Mixed Teams. Individual entry will automatically allow you to join up with other members from the same club to create your team, for no extra charge. Your club can enter as many teams as you like. Each club team will be ranked starting with the fastest four being team A, and so on. The races will be a straight ‘fastest past the post’. Results will need to be submitted by 8pm GMT on the day of that race (by 6pm on Sunday 27th BST for the 500m race). This gives you the freedom to complete that days’ race at any point during that day. Results will be revealed on Sunday 27th at 8pm, where we hope to hold a Facebook award ceremony. Schedule
The 5k race will be held on Friday 25th, the 2K race on Saturday 26th, and finally the 500m sprint race and the juniors 525m race will take place on Sunday 27th March. Submitting results
Results will be submitted using the unique link that will be sent with your registration. You will need proof of your time in the form of a Concept2 PM monitor screen shot. Pictures must clearly show the distance covered and the time taken. There is a trust element involved here so please play fair, and the judge’s decision is final. Entry fees
Each race entry fee £5, Juniors £4. The first 50 to sign up for all three races will get a snazzy Somerset 525 (2022) race vest - different from 2021. Final entries by Wednesday 23rd March. There will be no extra cost for team entry. FAQs
You will need access to a Concept2 Model C, D, or E rowing machine with at least a PM3 monitor. This can be at a gym, a club or at home. No other makes of rower will qualify. You will be competing at your own risk and you will need to be sufficiently fit and experienced in using a Concept2 rowing machine, to allow for safe participation in the Somerset 525. Please ensure that your monitor is showing the correct date for the screen shot to qualify. Late result entries will not be counted (we need to have a cut off). Cut off times are 8pm GMT on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday is 6pm BST for the 500m race. The entry fees are non-refundable. After registration, you will receive a race number and a payment link via PayPal, or if you prefer you can pay by bank transfer. Entrance is not complete until payment has been cleared. You do not need to live in Somerset, you can live anywhere, literally!

Dear 525 enthusiasts,

We’ve had a few messages from you asking about this years event; thank you for all the support.

It’s been fun creating this community and we are still in contact with chums that we’ve met through the 525.

We’ve decided that the crew will take a short break in 2023, but watch this space as the 525 could still be resurrected later in the year or in 2024.

Life just seems to be getting in the way.

On National Thank You Day, and also National Learn to Row Day in the US, it seems appropriate to say 'Well Done' and 'Thank You' to all our 525 participants, and announce we made a cracking £2299. The cash is ear marked for a set of training oars, which we are dire need of.

On a personal note, I'd like to say thank you to the many competitors we've met at various regattas, and sought us out to say how much they enjoyed our little competition. These words mean heaps and give us as a group, the confidence and drive to go again next spring.

Thanks again all, you've been marvellous.
