Its nearly time… looking forward to this one. Beatson's Building Supplies Jim Clark Rally
Two runs through the 12 miler of Longformacus this evening and thoroughly looking forward to rallying with the spot lamps back on.
Due into TC0 at 19:21
We’re in Scotland this week - Final day of recce today for the Beatson's Building Supplies Jim Clark Rally alongside Paul Brown, first time competing at the event for both of us.
Looking forward to this one after a good result at Clacton a few weeks ago. Stages look very fast, a nice mix of tight and twisty as well as some free flowing flat-out sections too.
A special mention to Paul Diamond for hosting us this week too.
Corbeau Seats Rally Tendring & Clacton 2023
Excellent weekend in Essex where we were back to get redemption on last year - pleased to say we finished 20th Overall and 2nd in Class 3 (2 Litre) where conditions could only be classed as treacherous.
The stages were tough, some very fast sections coupled with some nasty bumps and shiny tarmac but thankfully we got through unscathed.
Top job by Paul Brown on the notes as always. Plenty of close calls and scary moments but it wouldnt be a rally without.
Massive thanks to Steven Cox, Ian Hucklebridge, Neill Barnard, Ollie and Jack who kept us running👍🏼
Final thanks has to go to the organisers who ran a faultless event, we didnt lose any stage mileage even through the carnage of cars going off on every stage. We will definitely be back next year.

Looking forward to the Corbeau Seats Rally Tendring & Clacton event this weekend with Paul Brown in the hot seat.
The news of Craig Breen last week still feels a bit surreal, he was a massive idol for me and somebody who was taken from us far too soon. We’ll be rallying in memory of Craig this weekend
Big thanks to Spraytech - Aylesbury Ltd as always for their help and support in getting the car set up.
Delighted to win the 2 litre class and finish 16th Overall at the Alan Healy Memorial Rally at Cadwell Park this weekend with Jack Cox sat alongside me. Only Jacks second ever rally too!
The day wasnt without its issues though as we limped through over half of SS4 when the bolts holding the EE bracket had sheared. Luckily we got back to service but had lost about 1minute in doing so - we still led the 2 litre class but on an identical time to the car behind. A controlled drive throughout the afternoon saw us bring home Class C Honours winning the class by just shy of a minute.
Valuable seat time ahead of the Corbeau Seats Rally Tendring & Clacton in a few weeks time with Paul Brown.
Massive thanks to everyone who helps along the way. This somewhat makes up for retiring on SS7 at Brands Hatch whilst also leading Class C!

Thanks to Border Motor Club for putting on a great event, and to all the volunteers and marshalls that allow us to go out and have a play.
Loving the new livery thanks to Lively Race Graphics - looking forward to the Cadwell Park Rally next weekend.
Thanks Mark cars looking awesome now ready for a busy few months👍🏼
Cadwell Park - 2nd April
Clacton Rally - 22/23rd April
Jim Clark Rally - End of May
Sam Cox Rallying Clio Cup car!.. ready for Cadwell Park
Entry in for the Corbeau Seats Rally Tendring & Clacton in April - looking forward to getting back out in the little pocket rocket 💪🏼 🚀
Some upgrades happening to the car in the meantime and potentially a livery reveal in the coming weeks too….
Back to get revenge on this rally after catastrophic engine faliure in 2022.
Not the result we wanted at the Brands Hatch Stages this weekend but we’ll try to take the positives.
Winning Class C 2ltr and 14th Overall up until we retired 500m from the end of Stage 7 where an outer CV on a driveshaft let go. I hadnt looked at the times or where we were lying all day until somebody came up to us in service and told us we were winning the class! Class C is always mega competitive so to be winning the class after 6 fast stages and genuinely not taking any risks is promising.
Extremely frustrating to retire so close to the end, especially considering we’d saved a set of brand new super softs for the last 2 stages as we knew the temperature would drop and the conditions would replicate that of the morning. Thats the most confident i’ve felt in the car so we’re definitely improving with seat time.
The Clio’s maiden class win will have to wait!
Thanks to everyone who came and watched and helped us throughout the day, and a special mention to my dad for sitting in the silly seat and to Spraytech - Aylesbury Ltd for setting up a great handling car as always.
Jump onboard a short clip of SS10 from the Jersey Rally where we tackle the Clement stage on Friday Night.
A bit hesitant in places but you can see how narrow the lanes are in the second half of the video!
The hardest part is trusting what Paul is telling me whilst blasting down lanes you’ve only ever driven at 20mph before during the recce.
Looking forward to getting out this weekend at the The South Downs Stages Rally at Goodwood - this was the first ever rally I competed in when I sat alongside Ian Hucklebridge back in 2016 so its nice to be back.
Car is now running on DTA and Geartronics paddleshift so i’m looking forward to stretching its legs and having a play. A decent entry so hoping for some close battles!
I’d prefer for it to be wet so praying the heavens open! Rain dance needed.
Jersey Rally 2022 - ✅
Historic Rally Festival 2022 - ✅
A hectic few weeks has called for a bit of a rest as we’ve been a bit busy, Jersey Rally and then the Historic Rally Festival the weekend after.
We had a great week in Jersey at the beginning of the month, what a brilliant event which we will definitely be back for next year. Essentially my first closed road rally and also first rally on pacenotes seeing as we only did 10 competitive miles at Clacton in April. We finished 18th Overall which i’m happy with given the entry and my experience, theres so much more to come from the car but we took it easy as seat time was more important than taking risks. A huge thanks to Paul Brown in the silly seat who kept me on the black stuff, and to everyone who came over and supported us. Its been a tough few months getting the car sorted and it felt magic when we got back to service after the final stage.
We even managed an 8th fastest time in the dark on Saturday night which gave us a taster of what the car is capable of - massive thanks to Ian Hucklebridge for the use of his lazer lights as they honestly made driving at night a breeze.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped out and got us to the start line, especially my dad and uncle who have given up a lot of their time and some late nights working on the car! Time to get cracking with some upgrades…

Jersey Rally 2022 - looking forward to getting settled in this afternoon. Stages look awesome. A lot of work has gone in to getting us here so lets hope we can keep it on the black stuff.
Massive credit to all the volunteers and marshals who make this event happen and allow us to go out and have a play on some of the best stages in the UK.
A momumental effort to get the car ready for next weekends Jersey Rally. A few small bits to finish off but for the most part we’re done - the cars feeling good but after 6 months out it’ll no doubt take us a few stages to get into a rhythm.
Massive thanks to everyone who has helped over the past few weeks as its fair to say theres been a few late nights! Steve Cox, Roger Cox, Ian Hucklebridge, Spraytech - Aylesbury Ltd, Chris West, Neil Barnard, Stoke Mandeville Autocentre. Thanks to Andy at Phoenix Automotive Technologies for fitting us in for some last minute mapping too👍🏼
Should have been at Mewla tomorrow… we’ll be up there watching but such a shame as its an event i’ve always wanted to do. Always next year.
We’ve had a change of direction with the ECU now so going full DTA and having a new loom made to suit - will allow for far better diagnosis, data logging and then launch and traction control too👍🏼. Big thanks to Sandy Brown and Pure Motorsport for being so helpful
Here she is then, 9 days after we recieved the new engine its in the car and running. First trip round the field last night to check the clutch was working and the throttle cable was ok and its good to go. Some small bits and bobs to sort out but its 99% there. Paddle shift system not yet up and running but just waiting on a barrel position adapter from Geartronics. Massive thanks to those who helped with the actuator bracket (and yes its been nicely painted since these photos).
Long trip booked down to Cornwall to have the car mapped and put on the rolling road with Sandy Brown within the next couple weeks.
A few tasty upgrades besides the engine including the new AP Pro 5000R brake kit.
Cant wait to let it loose through the lanes of Jersey, bring it on.
Good progress! Lots of little bits to do but its getting there - hoping to have it running soon then its the long trip down to Cornwall to put it on the rolling road. Excited to see what she makes!
Now the headache of sorting out the throttle actuator mount for the paddle shift!
Time to get to work…
Up to something... keeping ourselves occupied whilst waiting for the engine to be built. Not long now!
Bit quiet on here as we've been waiting for parts to arrive, but I had a very nice phonecall today to say my shiny new cams have arrived from Belgium 4 weeks before they were due. Time to get everything shipped down to Pure Motorsport so they can start the build.
Still planning to get out on the stages over Epynt on 28th August, and then our entry has been submitted and accepted for Jersey in October. We're also planning to have the car on show at the Firle Beacon hill climb & rally event at the end of July but it all depends how quickly we can have the engine built and mapped.
Looking forward to some tuition and test sessions with Matt Edwards once the engine is complete!
Busy few weeks stripping the car and picking a spec for the new engine. The original head is off for crack testing this week to see if its re-usable, if not i'll have to use my spare engine head and send that off for porting and polishing instead.
Big box of goodies arrived from Pure Motorsport this week, with the throttle bodies arriving next week too. We're going for a custom spec PMS 240+ kit. Big cams, solid lifters and some other trick bits and bobs. The aim is 250 bhp as anything more than that is asking for trouble with a Sadev ST75.
The plan is to get back out for the Mewla Rally at the end of August which we'll plan to use a pre event test for Jersey in October.
Rally over.
SS4 was cautious but we were absolutely flying on stage 5 until the engine decided to let go. Lots of metal bits which looks to be crank casing but we cant locate where the metal bits exited yet. Such a shame as the stages were mega quick and we were really beginning to settle into a rhythm with the car.
Massive thanks to Paul Brown on the notes and to my dad, Ian and Neill at service. Brilliant job but unfortunately today wasnt meant to be.
Time to build a mega spec engine.
