And this is why it is different from “the flu”. 19000 Covid cases in a 7000 bed capacity
South Africa appears to be woefully underprepared for a serious escalation in Covid-19 cases, with roughly 3 000 out of about 7 000 critical care beds available between the public and private healthcare sectors, according to best estimates.
On Thursday, News24 reported approximate projections used by the government indicated 80% of Covid-19 infections would be mild, while 15 to 20% might require hospital admissions. About 5% would require critical care.

If your test result has come back positive, you need to self-isolate. If you stay with other people, here are a few things you can do to avoid spreading to the people you live with.
Guys, please be careful of social media!
It can be an incredibly toxic place right now. It's also a minefield of "intellectual bankruptcy" sprinkled with some "opinion becomes fact" nonsense.
People without any scientific degrees are offering their "expert" opinions that they gained after watching YouTube videos or reading stuff on Parlor. I'm not sure how much YouTube one needs to watch to know everything about COVID-19, how to properly deal with pandemics or how to save an economy while saving lives at the same time, but apparently, it's not that much.
People are angry, mean and mentally unravelling. This thing we are going through is a massive trauma; a trauma that everyone is dealing with in their own way. And loads of people are really just scared so they are trying to create ideas that can give them something to hold on to.
Also, try to remember that most of the conversations around these topics will just cause anger and will most probably lean itself to outraged commentators that will, in turn, make you angry. All this does is bring anxiety and despair in a time when you are already stressed and dealing with constant trauma in this global pandemic... and subsequent lockdown.
Everyone has a different opinion on what we should be doing right now, when the only thing we should all be doing is washing our hands, wearing our masks and physically distancing. Perhaps the best thing is to stay away from others as much as possible until this wave dissipates. Everything else is really subjective and part of your own journey, and we need to respect that.
Remember that you are allowed to have an opinion but that does not give you the right to share your opinions as facts, especially when you can't back it up with facts!
Just like Patrick Stokes stated in his philosophy teachings: "The problem with I’m entitled to share my opinion is that, all too often, it’s used to shelter beliefs that should have been abandoned. It becomes shorthand for “I can say or think whatever I like” – and by extension, continue to argue about matters that "I" don't actually understand. This (I’m entitled to share my opinion) attitude feeds, I suggest, into the false equivalence between experts and non-experts that is an increasingly pernicious feature of our public discourse."
Also, remember that you are allowed to support wanting to save lives while not wanting to be locked down. You can agree with some of the regulations while being really confused by others. You can read the recoveries as good news, or you can focus on the big number if that helps you get through this. There is no right or wrong answer. Everyone is just doing whatever they can to get through this, so perhaps all we need to do is be kinder.
What is bizarre to me is how polarised everyone has become, and how emotive that opinion is.
We need to remember that there is a grey area, and everyone's grey area is different. Be kind to everyone's needs. We're in the same storm, but we're actually not, everyone is dealing with this in their own way to try to help themselves get through this.
Just wash your hands, wear your masks, keep physically distancing and be kinder to each other... especially when online.
Wishing you a lekker day. Stay safe. Be kind. Sending you lots of love and wishing you only good things.

Friday Briefing | Stalemate: Why the ANC cannot act on corruption | News24 Will the failure to deal with corruption be the ANC's downfall?
It is only media and government that are spreading fear and misinformation.... the power taken by government to dictate your lives is out of hand
You’re doubting the power of 1 person.
I get it.
Imagine if MLK thought that?
Imagine if Gandhi thought that?
The amazing thing is turning off the news requires a simple choice.
“Am I going to turn on the news now?” The answer is you walking away to go play with your kids, go outside and read a book, plan a vacation or work on your home or business.
So many better options than supporting Big Media.
There’s no ‘hoping things will get better.’ You have to take action.
The first step is acknowledging the misinformation you’re being manipulated with fueled by Big Media.
Big Media is wearing a Mask.
Big Media is diguised as Big Pharma.
You’re a powerful individual.
Exercise your power.
Make that choice to dismantle misinformation.
Turn off the news.
For good.
Now.
