Grace: charm, loveliness, poise, elegance, mercy, tenderness, kindness. 🎀

Journey: course, passage. 🛤
One year ago, I stepped out of my comfort zone and launched the show, “Graced for the Journey.” When I first got the name, I had no idea where to take it and all that it would entail but as time progressed I further got instructions from the Holy Spirit, Conversations with Pastors’ Wives. Yes, it is with charm, kindness, elegance and tenderness that every pastor’s wife exude with every step on this course alongside our husbands.
Season 1 only scratched the surface of matters that pastors’ wives face. I, along with my guests, shared life experiences, ministry highlights, family life tales and then some!
🎉Baby Grace is 1️⃣ and the 🆕 Season is on the way - bigger and better!🎉

There is a community of women who share the same experiences as I do. Women who have been called to be helpmates to men that are shared with many others and bear their burdens as well. There are a lot of nuggets that we share but so much more that we just can’t and only a woman who lives this life completely understands the weight of it all. We are pastors’ wives.

The “Diary of a Pastor’s Wife” authored by Lady Eleanor Williams, is a good narrative giving insight of this pastor’s wife life. It was a delight and an honour to sit on the couch with Lady Eleanor to share from experience, the “Balancing Act.” The evening dripped with wisdom, innovation and elegance and all in attendance savored every moment.

🎉Congratulations and blessings Lady Eleanor! ✨

Speaking before crowds hasn’t been the easiest thing for me to do. Truth be told, I still get butterflies. However, I’ve become comfortable with a microphone and was told to simply have a conversation.

It was a delight to be one of the panelists of the Women of the Word Weekend (WOWW) at Central Zion Baptist Church with Minister Stephanie Burrows. With the “Wows and Woes of Ministry” as the overarching theme of the discussion, we addressed questions such as “Has the role of the woman/pastor’s wife changed?” “How do I mentor others if I am still sorting through personal challenges?” and “What is the difference between purpose and calling?”, just to mention a few.

We often second guess ourselves which hinders us from achieving many things but we have to trust God by renewing our minds with the Word which affirms who we are in Him.

Quiet Confidence

Have you ever heard the term "quiet confidence"? Doesn’t it seem to be an oxymoron? The word "quiet" denotes silence, but the word "confidence" is associated with being extroverted, outgoing, sociable, talkative, and to a certain extent, boastful. I beg to differ though. Confidence simply is the belief that one can have faith in someone or something, and interestingly enough, introverts possess this quality, too!
We have to quietly trust Him by renewing our minds with the Word which affirms who we are in Him. It is then we will be quietly confident.

Your Reservoir

A well is a hole drilled into the ground to access water contained in an aquifer or water table. In times past, a bucket attached to a lever would be used to access the water, and a screen would help with filtering contaminants.

As I sat on my mother’s front porch one afternoon, observing the replica of a well in her front yard, my thoughts wandered to John 4:14, "Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

The story, "The Woman at the Well," has so many messages imbedded in it. My focus, however, was not so much on the woman or her tumultuous relationships. Rather, I simply focused on the water. In order for a trip to a well to be worthwhile, there must be water. Good, clean water. Water is a necessity. It's vital for all known forms of life, even though it provides no calories or organic nutrients. In the text, however, this water does more than sustain life. It grants eternal life! "He who believes in Me," as the scripture says, "from his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water" (John 7:38-39). Jesus used water to symbolize the Holy Spirit. We've been gifted with the Holy Spirit to dwell in us, nurture us, and fill us.

Over the past year, with all the changes that we have faced, what have you been drawing from your well? Is your well springing with praises or complaints? Worry or hope? Stagnation or growth? Don't let today's unforeseen changes and circumstances that are beyond your control contaminate you. In these times of uncertainty, monitor what's springing forth from your well. Filter out despair, unrest, and ungratefulness, and reach way down to draw joy, peace, and gratitude. Despite what may seem to be a dry place in your life, the Holy Spirit is with you - dwelling in you, nurturing you, and filling you. For that reason alone, all is well.

How He sees Me

It’s not uncommon to see an oversized Bahamian flag gently waving in the balmy, island breezes on our beautiful islands, which encompass all things Bahamian. What exactly makes one Bahamian? Is it sipping sour leaf tea? Or any other bush tea or medicine? Is it consuming conch cuisines? Or munching on guava duff and coconut tarts, washing it down with a cup of gully wash? Is it greeting everyone you encounter during the day with a "good morning" or "good afternoon"? And asking, “You straight?” which has nothing to do with your sexuality or is it exclaiming our unparalleled, “Muddasick!”? We have a laundry list of foods and behaviors indigenous to The Bahamas so this was just a few.

My affinity with Bahamian culture was fostered by my mother, who insisted that we stay abreast of local and national news. This zest for knowledge was reinforced at school with my teachers seeing the need for us to know our Bahamian leaders and their contributions to our country. Over the years, I have had the privilege of traveling to a few of the Family Islands, creating memorable experiences which have further solidified my love for my country. Believe me when I say, "It's better in The Bahamas.” But do we see that beauty? Do we see that as a nation we can be better and do better with our God-given resources? Do we really embrace all of the opportunities that can advance us as a people?

Sometimes we see ourselves differently than others do. That can be good, and it can also be bad. The good is, we know our potential and work toward fulfilling goals; but the bad news is, we sometimes second guess our potential and stagnate our progress. Rest assured that God sees us differently than we often times see and value ourselves. The scripture tells us that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made." We are "a chosen race, and a royal priesthood." Everything that we desire to be is on the inside of us, and I am sure of this one thing: He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Do you see yourself the way God sees you?

Vehicles have undoubtedly evolve over the years and we often overlook and in some cases, are unaware of the luxuries afforded us in these machines we trust to take us to and fro. From radio only, to cassette tape players, to CD players to now Bluetooth features for our listening enjoyment. From key start, to push start, to keyless start- a safety feature, I suppose. Have you paid close attention to your steering wheel lately? Most vehicles have it now. Cruise Control.

By activating this feature, the inner workings take over the throttle of the car to maintain a steady speed as set by the driver. It is said, too, that this feature helps with maintaining gas levels because of less stopping and acceleration. On a long drive, it allows me to take in the sights and enjoy the moment without having to worry about breaking the speed limit or “Driving Miss Daisy.”

For some, giving over control to someone else can be unnerving while for others, it is done without reservation. Just as we may use this feature on our cars to allow control over how fast or slow we go, the Holy Spirit wants us to do the same with Him. He wants total control. He knows what we need and when we need it so stop trying to determine the outcome. Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” He wants us to give it all to Him - everything that concerns us, concerns Him.

Will you allow Him to take control of your wheel so that you can take in the sights and live in the moment?

Yes, it’s January and I’m on the beach but you can do that when you live in a piece of paradise.
Relax. Release. Rest. That’s what God wants us to do in Him. Cast your worries on Him because He cares so allow Him to work it out. Why worry when He has the plan and knows the end?
He has done it so many times so relax, release and rest knowing He will come through again.
