Breaking the silence on period poverty!

In collaboration with the MENstruation Foundation, we installed sanitary pad vending machines at New Vredenburg High School and Piketberg High School, benefiting a total of 800 girls. Taking a step towards ensuring that no girl misses out on education due to the lack of menstrual products.

New Vredenburg High School learners embarked on a leadership journey with the Columba Youth and Leadership Programme. The five-day residential academy activation aimed to enhance leadership and personal capabilities. Learners discussed challenges, building resilience and reinforcing their commitment to self-leadership.

Around 60 women from Hopefield and Aurora came together to mark Heritage Day, late last year. The event aimed to uplift and empower local business owners, showcasing products from local businesses to inspire others. Prizes were awarded to female participants, recognizing their enthusiasm and elegance throughout the event.

Holvlei Primary School's Year-end Excursion!!!

We're proud to have invested in quality education by sponsoring Holvlei Primary School's memorable excursion to the Two Oceans Aquarium on 12 December 2023. A total of 57 enthusiastic learners had the opportunity to explore and learn in a unique marine environment.

This initiative aimed to broaden the horizons of these young minds, providing them with firsthand exposure to the wonders of marine life.

Leadership begins with self-discovery! Recently, New Vredenburg High School embarked on a journey of personal growth and leadership development through the Columba Youth and Leadership Programme.

Twelve Grade 10 learners, educators, and school leaders attended a five-day residential academy activation. The program helped them build resilience and self-leadership skills.

Young minds were at work as nearly 200 learners from 23 different schools in the West Coast Region participated in the Annual Eskom Expo competition. πŸ’‘

These talented learners explored various scientific topics, sparking creativity and scientific curiosity. The top 51 projects, sponsored by Umoya Energy, received exciting prizes like laptops and vouchers. Let's nurture the next generation of scientific leaders!

Meet Our New Community Operations Intern: Tazley Amsterdam

Tazley holds a Bachelor of Social Work at NQF Level 8, which is equivalent to Honours, from the University of the Western Cape.

Tazley is not just an intern; she's a valued member of our community. She resides in Hopefield, Oudekraalfontein, bringing a unique local perspective to her role.

"My favourite part of the job is being out in the field. I love making sacrifices and being part of the great impacts Umoya Energy makes in the local communities. I am passionate about this job and developing myself into a professional, competent community engagement and development practitioner."

As part of our Heritage Day celebration, which took place last week, local businesses, West Coast Honey and Aurora Vroue Netwerk, showcased how they make/ produce their locally handmade products, and we proudly featured their goodies in our gift bags.

The attendees were also treated to a lovely lunch, desserts, and of course, those wonderful gift bags.

The overall theme of the day focused on Socio and Economic development.

The dress code theme was A Day in the New South Africa and an award for Best Dressed was given out.

Umoya's Heritage Day Celebration took place on Friday, 22 September 2023. The aim of the event was to honour the women of Hopefield and Aurora.

A turnout of 80 women from both communities joined us, including entrepreneurs who form part of our Micro SMME programme and who shared how Umoya Energy has supported them.

As part of the My Maths Buddy programme, each learner received a My Maths Buddy learner kit, which included a dictionary, two insert cards, and a terminology workbook.

"This programme has made Mathematics a lot easier for me to understand. The dictionary really helped in giving me the knowledge and confidence I needed to excel in Maths," said one Grade 10 learner.
