Kinnelon Celebrates 100th Anniversary With Slate Of Events The Borough of Kinnelon came to be in February 1922, with 400 residents. Quite a bit has changed since then.

Please join us in honoring Tom Kline as February’s Volunteer of the Month! He has lived in Kinnelon his entire life. Growing up in Smoke Rise, at the age of 12 he was so moved by the condition of St. Hubert's Chapel that he obtained permission from the Board of Governors of the Smoke Rise Club to clean up and board up the abandoned ruined and continuously vandalized chapel. He worked on weekends and holidays through college and thereafter. When not in the chapel working, he researched everything "Kinnelon" searching for pictures, articles, maps and journals and amassed voluminous amounts of information regarding Francis S. Kinney, Louis Comfort Tiffany and an expertise in the early history and development of this section of Morris County.
Tom enlisted community volunteers and together they established the St. Hubert's Chapel Committee and the non-profit Kinnelon Heritage Conservation Society in the early 1990's. He became a member of the Kinnelon Historical Commission and was instrumental in helping them obtain NJ Historic Site Designation as well as grants and funding that continues through today for the renovation and restoration of the Kinnelon Museum, L' Ecole. Over the last few decades, Tom has served on the Morris County Land Conservancy, the Kinnelon Town Council, Open Space Committee, Environmental Committee, co-chaired the Kinnelon 75th Anniversary Committee and was appointed as the Kinnelon Borough Historian after Lucy Meyer’s retirement.
Today, Tom lives in Fayson Lakes, continues to write, lecture, collect, restore and volunteer throughout Kinnelon. Due to his tireless devotion to St. Hubert's Chapel for over 52 years, it has become recognized nationally as Tiffany's first total ecclesiastical church interior and is being considered for nomination on the National Register of Historic places and is only a few projects away from being completely restored. He continues to serve on the Kinnelon Historic Committee, the St. Hubert's Chapel Committee, advisor to the board of Kinnelon Heritage Conservation Society Inc. and the Kinnelon 100th Anniversary Committee.
If you can't find Tom and he is not answering his phone or emails, he's probably giving a tour or working on a project on "Chapel" Island with his wife, Cori.
Many, many thanks to Tom for all of his efforts in keeping our history alive and for all of his dedication to our town. His name will be added to the plaque to be placed in Borough Hall in the coming months.
