LEAGUE RESULT:

DECSC 4 - 1 Kirrie Thistle CFC Over 35’s

Friday night saw the first ties of season 2023 in the East Region Over 35’s league get underway.
Kirrie travelled to Whitton Park in Dundee to take on familiar foes Dundee East.
Games between the two are always well contested and close, so a victory for either was a good start to the season.

Kirrie started well, keeping a lot of the ball and making East do the running. Around 20 minutes they got the deserved lead, Kilpatrick taking a quick throw in allowing McIntosh to wriggle into the box and dispatch a neat finish into the net.

From then on East began to get a foothold in the game, end to end stuff with Hussey in the Kirrie goal pulling off the more memorable stops.
However it was after a fantastic block that he could do nothing with the rebound and it was hammered home to make it 1-1

HALF-TIME: DECSC 1 - KCFC 1

East came racing out of the blocks second half, scoring a quick fire double. First a through ball was finished well, then a corner found an attacker in free space to hammer home a fine header.

The game had got away from Kirrie very quickly and now found themselves chasing possession. Without East creating too many chances.
A fourth was added for East at around 65 minutes, this spelled the end for Hussey in the goal who had been struggling with a knock from the end of the first half.
Kirrie managed to keep enough shape and resilience to keep East out, but only threatened briefly in the second half.

FULL-TIME: DECSC 4 - KCSC 1

A tough one to take opening fixture.
Short on numbers, especially in midfield, and with a few new faces it proved to be a tough ask against an ever improving Dundee East side.

Kirrie look forward to welcoming Douglas to Forfar Community Campus on Friday 31st where they’ll look to bounce back quickly and get points on the board.

Friendly Result

Kirriemuir 5-1 Brechin

Goalscorers - McIntosh(2),Murray,Smith,O.G.

Subs - Kilpatrick, Archibald, Hussey, Curran, Gerrie, C Sutherland, Hewitt

Kirrie Thistle CFC Over 35’s returned to action for the first time on Friday night since the end of last season and put in a composed and dominant display against league debutants Brechin.
Kirrie rattled home five without reply in an excellent first half display. If not for their profligacy in front of goal the score could have been higher.
At half-time they rang the changes which disrupted the Kirrie game plan slightly but Brechin never looked like getting back into it, not until late on when a speculative shot found its way out of the dark and into the net.

We now look forward to beginning our second season in the league with an away trip to Arbroath.
Brechin have a real baptism of fire playing champions St James

The club wish Brechin good luck in their maiden season in the league.

Kirrie Thistle CFC Over 35’s played their third game of the league season last night against Arbroath Harp.

After a day of showers the pitch was slippy but in great condition.

Kirrie welcomed Lindsey “chiellini” Stewart, David Massie & Shane Kilpatrick back into the squad and into the starting XI. Dave Pawley & John Cooper we’re also added to the squad with George Ingram, Kevin Archibald, Carl Valentine & Mark McDonald unavailable for the game.

The game started off at quick pace and it was clear that the away team were a well organised side.
A shot from distance squirmed awkwardly off the surface and Hussey was unlucky to parry the ball into the net. 0-1
Kirrie started to get a foothold, but Arbroath’s clever movement and passing was proving difficult to track, a long ball over the top was lobbed across the face of goal, the recipient looked off side, however it was a neat finish for 0-2
Kirrie made a few changes at this point and came back into the game, Arbroath still had the upper hand. But were finding it more difficult to create chances.
It was end to end with Kirrie coming closest to scoring through McIntosh hitting the post from 20 yards out.

HALF-TIME: KIRRIE 0 ARBROATH 2

The second half continued in the same vein as the first ended. Good play from both teams, both creating chances. Hussey in the Kirrie goal reacting well to Arbroath chances diving at attackers feet.
The game became a very open affair as both teams made a catalogue of changes, and Kirrie chased the game for a goal.
Unfortunately for the home side, a through ball was collected and finished well. 0-3
It was abit backs to the wall as the game became, to put it politely, frenetic and fluid!
A failure to clear lines in the last stages allowed Arbroath to add to the goal tally, another well taken goal from the edge of the box.

FULL-TIME: KIRRIE 0 ARBROATH 4

Kirrie unfortunately not at the races in this game. A “young” team in the early stages of playing together and understanding each other’s game against a well organised and experienced Harp side. In time Kirrie will develop that connection team-mates need to win games. But their not far away.

DOUGLAS 4 - 2 KIRRMUIR THISTLE over 35s

Kirriemuir thistle over 35s travelled to Dundee for our first competitive league game with a depleted squad with kirrie taking kick off and started passing the ball about working into the game. Both team playing well and creating chances the game going from end to end. Kirrie thought they had opened the scoring with a ball played through to Tosh behind the Douglas defenders for him to fire it into the net only to be ruled offside. Not long after Tosh broke down the left side and crossed the ball to Ally Scott who placed it into the bottom corner Kirriemuir 1 up.
The game carried on going end to end with Douglas hitting the woodwork late in the half but Kirriemuir held out.

Douglas start the 2nd half pressing Kirrie back creating a chances eventually through good play at the edge of Kirriemuir box Douglas scored calm finish in the bottom corner leaving Alex with no chance.
Douglas 1-1 Kirriemuir
Douglas kept pressing a creating chances and eventually got the break of the ball in the box for the striker to pass in from close range.
Douglas 2-1 Kirriemuir
Kirrie got back in the game going forward and creating chances with good play from Petrie, Tosh, Pawley and stewart. Kirrie got caught on the break with a ball down the left side then across in to the box headed in by Douglas striker.
Douglas 3-1 Kirrie
Kirrie got the heads lifted and carried on creating chances then from a corner played in by shepherd which was headed home by stewart
Douglas 3-2 Kirrie
The game continued to go end to end both teams creating chances. With a few tough tackles going in shepherd miss timed a challenge and got the games first yellow card. Kirrie pressed for an equaliser but got caught on the break with a decision of a pass back from the Ref Douglas had a free kick in kirrie box that was greatly saved by Alex only to break to the edge of the box for it to be fired into the net with the last kick of the game.
Douglas 4-2 Kirriemuir

Great effort from all of the players that was a decent game . And we carry on to the next game .

Photos from Kirrie Thistle CFC Over 35’s's post 22/05/2021

Last night saw the inaugural game for Kirrie Thistle CFC Over 35’s.
A very well drilled and organised Arbroath we’re the visitors to Forfar Community Campus and it gave the coaching team a chance to experiment with the squad available.

Kirrie had the early chances but it was Arbroath with a quick fire double around the 20 minute mark putting the away side in command.

Kirrie we’re far from out of the game and we’re rewarded on 40 minutes, York lashing home a volley after a rebound.

HALF-TIME: KIRRIE 1 ARBROATH 2

The second half rang the changes with only a handful of the starting eleven remaining on the field.
Kirrie continued to press and cause problems for Arbroath, Ingram capitalised on a rebound to level the score at 2-2.

The remaining 25 was very even, but it was Arbroath that went ahead, a neat finish from the edge of the box.
A fourth for Arbroath came with 10 minutes remaining.
Kirrie had chances to add to their tally, finally it was McDonald leaping highest to head home a Petrie corner.
The last 5 minutes was end to end, but it was defenses on top with the game ending with Arbroath chalking up a narrow win.

FULL-TIME: KIRRIE 3 ARBROATH 4

A great run out for the guys and the whole squad learnt a lot about the standard and pace of the league.
