We're leading an effort to plant 5,000 trees in my community, Sankera in Benue. For this year we're doing 6 pilot projects in 6 locations, and hope to scale from next year or upper to plant hundreds of thousands of trees every year for the next decade and perhaps more.
We've had engagements at the select locations and they all welcomed the idea, as some have donated hectares of land for the endeavour already. Last week we had a successful training/engagement with volunteers from the 6 pilot locations.
Tree planting has numerous benefits and no downsides I'm aware of. Trees clean the air that we breathe thus making us healthier and feeling refreshed. They reduce stress; they at least minimise the effect of global warming/climate change with its irregular dry and rainy seasons which is affecting farmers and their outputs (mine is mostly a agricultural community producing the largest amount yams in the world). They make the soil more fertile; they improve soil texture; they conserve the environment and restore nature; their fruits are food and can both be eaten and sold to make money; etc, etc.
The wood we use daily is gotten from trees we fell but we won't have any wood tomorrow without replacing the trees. It's why we're advocating that for every tree felled 4 should be planted back. We're losing entire forests in Nigeria and it's only responsible to plant back the trees.
At this last engagement last week we agreed that we're all to work towards getting the seeds we'll use to make the nurseries at the 6 pilot locations for propagation. The idea is to have nurseries to nurture the seeds into young plants and transplant during the rainy season. On our part we plan to buy the seeds of the mostly economic trees: mahogany, teak, neem, gmelina, Leucena, eucalyptus; as well as palms, coconuts, cashews, oranges, mangoes, etc, and give out to the volunteers as our contribution.
At the weekend I simply asked for help on an alumni group I belong to for anybody with information on how to get the seeds (I know, I just needed options) and a day later, a friend who owns a plantation of up to 60 hectares called. He's willing to send across any number of seeds I want for most of the trees mentioned above, and to help get the best species of the rest using his contacts. I'm eternally grateful and happy I asked for the help. I'm starting the week in a superlative mood.

Ipevnor Congratulates New PDP National Chairman
On behalf of my self and family, political associates, supporters and the entire Campaign organization, Join Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), the good people of Benue State and Nigerians to Congratulate Sen. Dr. Iorchia Ayu over his election as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
A front line contender for Benue State governorship position, accountant Terhemen Ipevnor described Ayu as a consumate intellectual and a principled but sagacious politician with unblemished record of public service and relevant connect across political divides who will act as a bridge builder that is ready to drive the party to rescue and recover Nigeria from the throes of a failed state and build a progressive and just country subsequent to the victory of PDP in the 2023 general elections.
He emphasized the optimism that the leadership of the party under Ayu’s headship will foster unity in the country and bring a renaissance of the Tiv Nation and Benue State in the scheme of National politics.
While appreciating Gov Samuel Ortom in particular and other leaders of the party in the state and across the country for the role they all played in Ayu’s emergence unopposed, the former accountant for Breau local Government and Chieftaincy affairs said, Dr, Ayu is prepared for the job and is the game changer the party needs to achieve victory come 2023.
He also noted that, having served as President of the Senate of the 4th Republic and Minister of different Federal ministries thereafter, the pedigree of Ayu is not in doubt and justifies why the members of the PDP across the country have reposed their confidence in him.
He charged the Chairman to bring his wealth of experience, knowledge and exposure to bear on the administration of the party from the Wards, LGAs, States and National level.
