Happy National CROWN Day!

"Created by The Crown Coalition, National Crown Day is campaigning to end hair discrimination in the workplace and at schools, which the Black community faces far too often when wearing their natural hair.

The CROWN Act, which stands for โ€œCreate a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair,โ€ is a law that prohibits race-based hair discrimination, which is the denial of employment and educational opportunities because of hair texture or protective hairstyles including braids, locks, twists or Bantu knots."

Juneteenth is a day for recognition, celebration, community, and reflection.

On this day in 1865, notification *finally* reached the enslaved people of Galveston, Texas, that they were no longer slaves and property. Here's the thing...slavery didnโ€™t end that day! It continued until the abolishment of slavery with the 13th Amendment that was ratified on December 6, 1865. The pursuit for justice, equity, and the fight against Jim Crowe 2.0 continue today.

What Black drivers are doing to protect themselves during traffic stops 14/04/2021

The article in the link below emphasizes the phenomena of driving while Black. Please keep in mind, the practice of developing a routine traffic stop survival plan isn't new.

I, too, have a checklist of things I do to ATTEMPT to protect myself *WHEN* stopped.

I remember being pulled over by TWO police officers after speaking at a Wednesday Night Bible Study for "suspicious activity." Someday I will blog about that experience in more detail. Thankfully Mama and I lived to see another day. Sadly, there are far too many other brothers and sisters who weren't as fortunate. ๐Ÿ’”
