Beyond Difference Inter-faith was delighted to be able to support the ‘Broken Gospel?’ book launch event at Chapter Two!

It is a sign of great maturity that our inter-faith discussion is able to look at the incredibly difficult topic of Christianity and the Holocaust and that we can respectfully disagree with each other’s views.

Huge thanks to Rev. Dr Peter Waddell for presenting the arguments from his book and to Yossi Eli who responded to him from a Jewish perspective.

Thank you to all those who attended and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our future events!

On Thursday the 27th of April many of the Beyond Difference Committee members attended the Proud of Bucks Award. We were shortlisted for the Community Group Contribution which recognises and celebrates a group in the Community Board area that has made a clear and positive impact in their local community during 2022.

We would like to take a moment to share a previous event that Beyond the Difference held at Chesham Mosque in November 2022.

At this Q&A style event guests were given the opportunity to write their question on a postcard as they entered and then, after a period of socialising and refreshments, the questions were presented to the panel of faith leaders. This consisted of Rabbi Neil Janes (South Bucks Jewish Community), Ibrahim Ameen (Chair of the Chesham Mosque committee) and Reverend Jeremy Moodey (Curate at St Mary’s Chesham and member of General Synod – the governing body of the Anglican church.

Some of the questions asked ranged from ‘Who was Jesus?’ to ‘What do you believe happens after death?’ to ‘What do you believe about forgiveness?’ to ‘What do you believe about the role of men and women?’ and many more besides.

This event encapsulated the purpose of Beyond Difference which is to work out where there is common ground and build upon this and yet also acknowledge and respect the distinctive differences between the faiths.

Thank you to everyone who came along and we look forward to sharing details of our upcoming events with you!

Prayers of Remembrance for Holocaust Memorial day at Keble college Chapel, Oxford.

A number of Beyond Difference committee members and their family attended a Service of Remembrance for the Holocaust at the end of January. This was held at the beautiful grounds of Keble College Oxford. It was a truly moving service and the speech given was especially inspirational.
