To those who keep falling out with everybodyâŚ
Everybody ELSE isnât the problem. Nor is it because youâre so âdeepâ and ânext levelâ, although the enemy would love for you to believe that so you donât grow. If you canât manage relationship, you canât follow peace with all men, just the ones who donât challenge or stretch you. Pride is a sneaky devil.

Losing It
I have had the experience of completely losing it.
Typically, the situation is this: long day, lots of challenges at work, difficult conversations and little irritations have come up throughout the day. I get in the car and head out into traffic to come home.
People cut me off. People wonât pay attention at the light. People wonât turn when thereâs a green turn arrow, but instead they look both ways.
The heat starts to build. I can feel it in my neck, and then it just explodes. Horn blasting, and Iâm basically shouting in my car for my own benefit. I just lose it.
Anger always finds a way to escape.
Anger causes tremendous issues in our lives. Jesus even said that the distance between anger at someone and murdering them is pretty short because anger basically devalues someone else to the point where weâd be okay if they werenât alive. (See Matthew 5:21-22.) The word âcontemptâ comes to mind here (e.g., youâre in my way; youâre not worth paying attention to or respecting; itâd be better if you werenât there; I canât control whatâs going on with you there).
The wisdom of God has a lot to do with disarming our anger. Anger makes us do things we donât want to, like lash out (Proverbs 14:3) or act without thinking (Proverbs 14:8). Anger makes really intelligent people act foolish (Proverbs 14:17) and miss the consequences of angry actions (Proverbs 14:12).
So whatâs the other side? What does wisdom bring us that helps deal with anger?
One word: patience.
âWhoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.â (Proverbs 14:29)
Patience is one of the wisest virtues because it helps us stop, listen, and assess reality. Patience keeps us from acting too quickly and violently based on simply what weâre feeling.
Patience helps us take a deep breath and see, really and truly, what matters most.
As you read todayâs Proverb, think about how patience and anger have appeared in your life recently. What can chasing after Godâs wisdom do in helping you find patience that gives life rather than the anger that takes it away?
Don't let anyone project their limitations on you. They didn't create you, so don't let them control you. They have NO IDEA what God has for you. Keep going.
Not What It Looks Like
The phrase âthis isnât what it looks likeâ has been used as an excuse as long as any of us have been alive. Usually the person saying this has been caught doing something that is EXACTLY what it looks like.
A kid with his hand in the cookie jar â I didnât do it.
Proverbs 5 addresses a situation where a young man is drawn to a woman for specific, ahem, purposes. Of course, this is just an example. This kind of thing happens in the reverse (woman drawn to a man) all the time. This isnât a gender thing; itâs a human thing.
The human drive for physical intimacy is really a desire to satisfy things that we donât feel are getting satisfied.
Oh, did I mention that the man in this proverb is likely married already?
The reason this is a great place for wisdom to step in is because wisdom helps us make the healthy, holy, and hopeful decision in situations of temptation and distraction.
Because it isnât what it looks like.
Proverbs 5 says, âFor the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword.â (Proverbs 5:3-4)
In other words, âHereâs what you think itâs going to be: someone who satisfies that need that the person youâre with wonât satisfy. You think itâs something that will take away that empty feeling you have inside. It isnât what it looks like, though.â
It seems like the romantic affair is the more popular route, but in the words of the Proverbs, the popular route isnât healthy.
Wisdom helps us here by pointing to the end result â youâre going to chase this thing, and it may look really nice and beautiful, but in the end itâs going to blow up in your face.
It isnât what it looks like.
Instead, Proverbs teaches us to build up the good and honorable parts of our lives (Proverbs 5:9-10), listen to the direction of God and people we trust (Proverbs 5:12-14), and take care of the people and privileges God has given us (Proverbs 5:15-20). These are the ways that lead to life and hope.
They may seem boring, but they arenât what they look like, either.

Don't let them judge you, only God can do that.
As long as you are being true to who God says you are and doing His purpose for your life, you can walk with your head lifted up and determination in your eyes.
They'll always criticize what they don't understand. They don't understand because it's God's vision and He assigned it to you.
Keep living.
