Is ‘Green Wood’ actually green?
When we’re told not to burn ‘green wood’ this refers to wood that has been recently cut down and has not had the opportunity to season (dry). Seasoning refers to the drying of the internal moisture of the wood. Burning this type of wood is inefficient and leads to excess smoke which can not only damage the flue but also contributes to air pollution 👎🏽 …. No one wants to be that person!!

Our guys recently completed the ‘Advanced Working At Height’ course. Short duration work at height should be treated the same way as any other activity at height. Appropriate fall prevention controls should be used regardless of the time duration of the task. Approximately 80% of chimney cleans can be done from the bottom up. But if your particular fireplace requires cleaning from the top down, bird nest removal or bird mesh installed, we can do so according to current health and safety standards.

We get a lot of calls this time of year from people having problems with smoke coming into the house while trying to start their fire. This can be due to cold air pockets in the flue. If the rising smoke hits a cold pocket it can be forced back down, essentially making your flue system work in reverse. Try stacking your wood this way ⬆️ sitting fire starters on top of the ‘jenga’ kindling. The heat will warm your flue quicker, creating the draft you need. 🔥 Please remember to get your chimney cleaned annually for a safe & warm winter !
