Delhi Archives is a repository of non-current records of Government of NCT of Delhi which was set-up in the year 1972 on the recommendations of the Indian Historical Records Commission (a pioneer advisory body under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India) with the sole aim to preserve the rich archival heritage of Delhi in the form of rare documents, maps, photographs, manuscripts, books etc. for research purpose and administrative use. In 1986, it was shifted to its present building constructed in accordance with the archival standards.
Delhi Archives is one of the richest and a scientifically maintained archives of India. It stores a rich archival heritage of Delhi's ups & downs and of its transformation into the Capital City. Delhi Archives is also being used by the general public in many ways such as for obtaining the certified copies of the registration records of property, notifications published in the Gazettes, jail register etc.
