Renowned Bangladeshi architect Marina Tabassum has been awarded the Soane medal, the first architect from the global south to have that honour.

This prestigious architecture award is presented annually by Sir John Soane’s Museum in London.

She was previously awarded The Aga Khan Award for her outstanding design of Bait Ur Rouf Mosque in Dhaka and now she is of one of the its steering committee.

BUET graduate Tabassum, born and raised in Dhaka, was also ranked third in “The world’s top 50 thinkers 2020” list of UK-based magazine Prospect. She came just after KK Shailaja, health and social welfare minister for Kerala in India, and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
