I’m a former high school teacher/coach, baseball player and now author of
BRIGHT LIGHTS BLACK STARS.
Today we watched former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney’s state funeral with admiration and respect. It was a touching tribute to a very effective Prime Minister, politician, husband, father, and grandfather. One of the prime movers of the North American Free Trade agreement among other international and achievements for Canada, Mulroney was an effective leader. My wife Suzanne was glued to the coverage as she worked in the communication and correspondence department of the Mulroney government and has fond memories of the Prime Minister and his wife Mila.
Looking forward to a Bright Lights Black Stars book talk March 24 at Jackie Robinson Ball Park here in Daytona Beach with Central SABR Central Florida Chapter . Such a great connection with Robinson, Johnny Wright, and other Negro League players who played in Canada. Can’t wait to share the story.
Thanks to all of my Facebook friends who sent me birthday wishes. I appreciate your thoughtfulness greatly. Sorry for the late reply as I basically was off Facebook for a while.
Thanks to Pittsburgh Forbes Field SABR Chapter for a memorable visit!
Pittsburgh Forbes Field SABR Chapter meeting was great. A nice venue in the Pittsburgh Pirates Administration building right next to the Park. I enjoyed the speakers and meeting chapter members. I was so happy to share the Bright Lights Black Stars story. Here are some pictures.

To all my Facebook friends, I wish you, your family, and friends “Seasons Greetings” and a really healthy and happy 2024.
I extend my hopes that the world will be a much improved and better place for all who have had difficult times these past several years. There are many challenges for the people of the world who have it much worse than many of us.
I hope people, governments, and all humans will live together in peace and our world will be a happier and safe place for all in 2024. We need more kindness, understanding, and respect for each other more and more. This is the time that should remind us of the good times and joy in our lives. Let the spirit and love of Christmas resurface and grow stronger in the days ahead.
Regards to all!
Paul A.
Let’s not forget to honour those who died at Pearl Harbor, Hawai Dec.7,1941.
The rest of the story.
George Elliott was the first American to spot the impending Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He is known for his early detection of the Japanese planes prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941. At this time radar was not considered reliable and was in the experimental stage of development. Elliot’s three warnings were ignored by the upper echelon of the Army. He then called an administrative office to report the unusual finding but was told by an officer there to forget about it.

just got word from Chatham Minor Baseball that they received $500.00 from the Moose Lodge in my name based on my Bright Lights Black Star presentation. The Moose Club upped the donation from what we actually raised because they thought the talk was really good. I’m so proud to give back to the Minor Baseball organization that meant so much to me as a youngster.
So much fun and a really nice welcome from the Kent Historical Society and the Chatham Kent Black Historical Society and Museum for my Bright Lights Black Stars book presentation. It was great to be back in my hometown to share the story which connects to Chatham so well. I’m so happy that you enjoyed the talk and stories. I appreciate you having me and am thrilled with so many nice comments about the presentation and the time we had together.

UNFORTUNATELY, The University of Windsor Alumni Director, Patti Lauzon has cancelled my Bright Lights Black Stars book presentation Sept. 27th at the River Book Store in Amherstburg. I should have informed you before but I am still hurt, angry, and totally disappointed by this ridiculous decision to not allow me to share this terrific story. It’s a strange time that we live in today. I will not provide more details on Facebook but if you are interested as to her reasons for not permitting this event, either call me 613 404-8838 or email at [email protected] and I will give you exactly what I was told when informed in a telephone conversation with the U of W director. You will probably be outraged as I am.
Had to share this….the great Barry White, what a voice, what a song?

I WAS ASKED-what is your style of writing?
MY RESPONSE FOLLOWS:
I write in clear and understandable but descriptive sentences. I don’t use fancy words to try to impress the reader. People like to hear stories that connect to a person about whom the author writes. So, I feel I tell interesting “stories” in my most recent book -Bright Lights Black Stars.
FROM MY BOOK Black Stars ⚾️Bright Lights..…..baseball “stuff” on this day..…..On Aug. 6,1952, at age 47, Satchel Paige became the oldest pitcher to win a MLB game. He pitched 12 innings for the St. Louis Browns to beat Virgil Trucks and the Detroit Tigers 1-0. Satchel scattered 7 hits over the distance and walked two.
SO PROUD OF BRIGHT LIGHTS BLACK STARS 😀⚾️ 👍
Among other quality endorsements, former MLB pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and Montreal Expos, Bill “Spaceman” Lee wrote the Foreword to the book. The book has attracted several quality endorsements from notable figures in the baseball world. These include Tom Gamboa, former coach of the KC Athletics and Chicago Cubs, Scott Crawford, the director of operations of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, Frank Cosentino, a former Canadian Football quarterback & CFL Hall of Fame member, Cecil Wright, a director of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, Barry Boughner, president of the London Majors Alumni Association & former NHL hockey player, and Ed Heather, a former Toronto Blue Jays scout.
Thanks to everyone who has bought BRIGHT LIGHTS BLACK STARS. If you have yet to order it on Amazon, “just do it.” It’s really a great story about terrific players and teams!
