The premier will be done by trumpeter Dr. Stanley Curtis on his Colorado themed recital “Scaling the Mountains of Trumpet Literature”. Mount Elbert was specifically composed for Dr. Curtis in mid 2023 to depict the tallest peak in the Rocky Mountains in the state of Colorado, Mount Elbert. The premier of my woodwind quintet will take place at UNT and will be watchable via livestream in November 5th, 2023 at 12:00 PM CST. The piece, Mount Evans, will be performed by flautist Nikkie Galindo and her woodwind quintet. It’s part of a set of 10 pieces depicting the top 10 highest peaks in the state of Colorado in the Rocky Mountains. This one is Mount Evans, the astonishing landscapes and demeanor of the iconic peak through the unique and marvelous colors of a woodwind quintet. Come and watch!

I have released a recording of a few of the profiles, and here is a new recording, fresh off the mic, of Waltz of the Dead Lovers: a dancing profile for unaccompanied trumpet. The profile depicts the afterlife dancing of two lovers remaining together through death regardless of gender and free from judgement. Through the rising and falling passages, anticipatory points, and somewhat unsettling motive throughout the piece, I believe it captures the intertwining and everlasting connection of the two lovers with the passion they had in life, and what they continue to share after. This is a recording of a new piece I’ve been working on a for a while, that I’ve just completed and made available on my website a few days ago. A Toddler’s Relam is a short piano piece about the ongoings of the mind and room/play area of a toddler. It shows the playfulness and constant energy within the mind of a child, as well as their endless imagination. Any parent, carer, pre-school teacher, or nanny knows the chaos that is the mind and activities of any child, because of the numerous amount of times they have been invited by that child/children to partake in the constant adventures that they share alone or with their friends.
This piece is atonal in its theory, mainly, and is inspired by the famous composer, Igor Stravinsky. More particularly from Petrouchka. A small solute to the late composer in the opening motive of the first bar. I found that writing this piece in a part-“chance” manner, playing with tupets and the constant changes in octave, pauses, and duration, gives a very vivid glimpse into the mind of a toddler and the amazing world that is their room or play area. A child’s mind is changing constantly, and a lot of it is made up on the spot, based on what they see or think of first to make their fantasy or reality play out suitable for themselves. I found that this atonal method proved very effective. Throughout the piece, the primary makeup is of minor seconds, minor thirds, and tri-tones ascending and descending, beginning firmly and abruptly, but ending gently and preciously.
I hope that you are able to visualize your own scenario of this toddler’s room and activities in your head. As you listen to this piece and/or work through it, try to visualize your own story of how things are playing out in the room, the toys involved, the story line of the child, who is playing with him/her/them, maybe there are other friends involved. Your mind is the only limit, so enjoy where it takes you as the listener and as the player. As the performer, it is especially important to make up your own story and know the story of your toddler and interpret it through your more than capable hands. Developing the story is the key to the success of this piece. Be literal, be precise, and be expressive in your performance.

This is a free modern fanfare for trumpet trio that I have composed for a fitting occasion. Something for you to take home you as an example of an area of my compositional style. Something for other composers or aspiring composers, if they are interested, to look over and study. This fanfare carries with it intensity for all 3 trumpets together. The bright, direct, and heavy sound of the trumpet put to use in one of its most comfortable settings, the fanfare. The piece is filled with tonality and some clashing dissonance in passing and augmented chords to keep the intended boldness of the piece, as well as a sense of tension and anticipation.

Blizzard for Organ. A piece composed with no specification of stops to be used. I anticipate it to be up to the performer what stops they find fit for the piece, making the severity of the Bluzzard their own, and the tone fitting to them. It is a piece that is tonal and uses a constant theme of chromaticism (constantly ascending and descending) for the effects of blizzard whirlwinds, chaos, and dark beauty.

The Music of Our Lady of Guadalupe. A commissioned piece for Organ and Cello and the only of it’s kind. The story goes that the stars at the hem of the gown of Our Lady of Guadalupe are a divine melody. Based on the research I have done to make the commission possible, this is the best interpretation I could come to based on the melody that has been allegedly transcribed from the hem of the gown.
