Although election results did not go our way last night I want to thank everyone who supported me for MCBOE. I truly believe that some of the very best administrators, teachers, faculty, and staff are in Mingo County. I pray for blessing and increase on every school and student. I also extend congratulations and pray for blessing and wisdom for those who were elected.
Today is Election Day! I would be honored to be elected to the Mingo County Board of Education. I have a passion for the students of Mingo County and I believe that together we can see incredible things. As a board member I promise to provide more resources to faculty and staff and to provide more opportunities to parents to be directly involved in their children’s education. Vote Justin Endicott for MCBOE!
As we approach Election Day I want to share targeted areas of my platform over the next few days. Tonight I want to focus on what I will do as a board member for the faculty and staff in Mingo County Schools.
- I want to be a visible presence in schools and classrooms. Thankfully, Mingo County and Wyoming County Schools (where I am employed for the 2022-2023 school year) have different schedules. This will provide me multiple days where I will be able to visit schools in the county. As a teacher I asked for board members to visit my room and only one member took me up on that offer. I want to connect personally to our faculty, staff, and students and champion everything that they do. I also want to be a listening ear if there are concerns or issues.
- I want to make certain that there’s transparency in the area of finances. I believe that part of the responsibility of being a board member is making sure that we are good stewards with our finances. This means, making sure that funds are going DIRECTLY to students and classrooms. During my time as a Mingo County teacher I was expected to provide nearly all classroom resources. However, I now understand that it is not like that in every county. I want to work to make sure that teachers never have to buy a highlighter, marker, or pen again. Every school should have a fully stocked supply room and I will work to make sure that happens.
- I want to provide quality professional development. We have so many excellent teachers within our county. I want to listen to our teachers and provide professional development centered around what they feel they need. Too many times I’ve heard people walk out of a session and say, “that was a waste of my time.” I want high quality professional development offered to teachers so that we maximize the time and provide opportunities for encouragement and growth.
- Shared Leadership. I want to form a team where every school has representation and a voice. All major decisions that impact classrooms should be made in consultation with those who are in classrooms. When we adopt a platform such as Google Classroom, LMS, or Schoology we need to listen directly to our teachers.
- I understand that time is valuable and it is not always possible for all of our staff and faculty to attend board meetings. I will advocate to livestream all of our meetings so that all employees have easy access to hear what is happening and discussed. We owe you complete transparency.
- You can always count on me for open communication. I will absolutely be a champion and a voice for you because I understand what it is like to be in your shoes. As a teacher who loves the classroom, I will make certain that your voice is valued and heard. Together, we will work to celebrate and recognize all the great things going on in Mingo County Schools. I truly believe that our best days are ahead of us.
