I first noticed them in 2014 when they released 'Senbonzakura,' and I became a fan in 2019. Over the past five (or six?) years, I've had countless enjoyable experiences and met many people through their music. Now, only one year remains. Nobody expected there to be a shocking announcement at the New Year's party, which was also the first concert of Wagakki Band that I attended. Before the news, everyone enjoyed the concert and listened to their memories of the past ten years. I was overwhelmed with surprises, from 'Tengaku' to the long-timed recording of performances and the harmonizing of 'Akatsuki no Ito.' When Yuko-san asked, 'Are there any overseas fans?' I answered loudly and waved my pen-light. We sang 'Akatsuki no Ito' together before the encore, a moment so heartwarming that tears almost welled up in my eyes, feeling the mutual love between the band and fans.
As they returned to the stage, their demeanor shifted noticeably. As usual, Yuko-san began to speak. She attempted three times to complete the sentence. I had a bad feeling when she uttered 'Wagakki Band was established...'. The more we enjoyed the concert, the harder it was to accept. At that moment, some fans were already choked up, even though Yuko-san mentioned there was almost a year left. How can one year be enough? Before the concert, I felt that even if this was my first time attending their concert, I would have another chance in the future. I thought of this experience as a possibility, perhaps I would visit Japan next year and attend their concert again.
And, I heard the announcement.
Yuko-san implored us to support them until their hiatus and to sing 'Brave' with them. How could I muster the strength? How could I sing a song about hope and future when my heart was shattered by the news? I didn't know if I cried, but when I sang the lyrics of 'Heading toward shining future,' I felt myself getting choked up. I kept the journey with my family in Japan and took a long time to accept the truth.
Their union was a miracle, and encountering them was equally miraculous for me. I’ll try my best to support them until they suspend, and I’ll still be here waiting for them until they return.
