Dear Sonshine friends and family,
We wanted to let you know that this page is undergoing changes. Michael (former pastor of Sonshine Baptist Fellowship) and I (his wife, Robin) have moved to Texas where Michael is now pastoring a church. Sonshine Baptist Fellowship is setting up a new page, so look for an invite from them, or search for them on Facebook to keep following SBF.
Michael and I will keep this page under the new name, "Knowing Him Better", as a collection of a portion of his sermons and devotions while serving at SBF in Washington State. It will serve as an archive for this time period. We are very happy to keep you as followers if you would like to stay connected to this page. Who knows, you might be in need of a little encouragement one day that one of these past sermons or devotions can provide for you in the future.
For up-to-date sermons, you are also welcome to follow First Baptist Church, Floresville, TX where Michael is now the pastor.
We desire for you to feel God's immeasurable love!
In Him,
Michael and Robin
Hosea 12.6 “...and always live in confident dependence on your God.”(New Living Translation)
What does it say about us when we don't live in confident dependence on Him? I believe it says that we are not totally convinced:
That God is fully trustworthy.
That He is perfect in all that His wisdom designs.
That He will be infinitely good to me every moment of every day.
That He will use His unlimited power in the intervention of my life.
I don't want to convey thoughts and feelings of doubt to Him or anyone else. Our Lord wants us to put the full weight of our soul onto Him and all that He is. Knowing that He is truly for us causes us to feel great confidence and to say, “who can be against us.” (Romans 8.31)
I hope you feel the confidence that comes from knowing Him right now. If not, stop and reflect on His Goodness and Greatness. Then, by confident dependence on Him, change the way you feel!
In Him,
Michael
Mark 4:39 (New American Standard Translation)
"And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, 'Hush, be still.' And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm."
Perhaps you feel like the disciples. You are following the Lord, doing what He tells you to do. Then, suddenly a great storm hits you. The book of Matthew literally calls this storm a great “shaking.” Life is like that. Everything is fine and in a blink of an eye, you find that your soul is shaking.
The good news is that the One Who made the sea be still, can make your soul be still. He can make you go from feeling as if you are sinking to feeling as if you are soaring like an eagle. How? He does it the same way He calmed the sea - through a spoken Word.
If we will listen, He will speak. The Shaking stops. Peace reigns. Christ is glorified! Amen!
In Him,
Michael
John 4.14 “But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
In various places, the Lord describes Himself as a Spring, Fountain, and Rivers of life giving water. It is a picture of not only life in the sense of existence, but of life that is rich with meaning, and literally expanding in satisfaction and fulfillment in His love. This verse says that His life wells up, or swells into newer levels of experiences. God's people are described as being able to:
Have joy upon joy...Isaiah 29.19a
Have peace multiplied...1 Peter 1.2b
Shine brighter and brighter in holiness...Proverbs 4.18
Overflow in hope....Romans 15.13
Abound more and more in love...Philippians 1.9
And receive grace upon grace...John 1.16
Jesus tells us not to be heavy laden with burdens, but overwhelmed and swelling up with rich expressions from the rivers of His delights. (Matthew 11.28-30; Psalm 36.80) May our spiritual growth not be stunted or stagnant, but constantly be being transformed into the image of Christ!
In Him,
Michael
