Semi-disgruntled, often amused writer of contemporary romance

I've always pictured my fictional Galway, NC being in the Pisgah National Forest area.

The Library is proud to share that Adriana, Spanish-Speaking Community Specialist, was named Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE). A small sample of her successes include championing the library's access to digital resources, especially driver's ed training and Cell-Ed --she has helped enroll nearly 275 learners in Cell-Ed! She also helped students earn 54 Northstar certifications in 2023.

Adriana’s service to her community goes beyond teaching, as she actively supports, troubleshoots, and guides adult students. Her availability through various communication channels reflects her commitment to meeting community members wherever they are, addressing an array of questions – from navigating technology to access paystubs to connecting with legal services to support workers’ compensation claims. At CLUES, a local nonprofit, Adriana’s classes stand out for creating an environment where students engage in peer-to-peer education. This fosters a supportive space where students feel comfortable expressing questions, sharing opinions, and dreams. Adriana is an outstanding teacher and lifelong learner, committed to consistently learning and building her own skills and knowledge to meet the evolving needs of our Saint Paul community.

We extend huge congratulations and appreciation to her for her work in community on behalf of Saint Paul Public Library.

The Scam of Book Returns Insurance - Writer Beware 20/02/2024

The Scam of Book Returns Insurance - Writer Beware If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ll know that one of the hallmarks of the publishing/marketing/fake literary agency scams that are so prevalent right now is the selling of bogus services. Sometimes they’re bogus because they’re totally substandard (a la those online clothing comp...

This week marks that halfway point between the release of "Curves for Days" (Aug. 2023) and the upcoming release of "What She's Having" (Aug. 2024).
Joe is my favorite guy ever, modeled after one of the sweetest men I've ever known. I can't wait for you to meet him. ❤️

[image: lean clean-shaven man leaning on a wall, hands in pockets, serious expression, against a black background. Text: "Only 6 months to wait now... "What She's Having" (July & Joe's story).
Joe Anderson knew from the first moment he saw her that July was The One. Now, after years apart, he's back, driven by the need to explain his disappearance. In search of the girl who filled his teenage dreams, he finds instead a powerhouse woman who steals his heart and soul."

Got some exciting news about book 3 in the Galway series... Looks like there won't be as long between the release of books 2 & 3 as between 1 & 2!

Book 3, Andi & Kevin's story, is tentatively scheduled for release in spring 2025!

Andi is the most bad-ass, gorgeous, confident character I've ever written. And Kevin is the big, strong, sweet, gentle man who is SMITTEN by her.

Alas, Andi has Multiple Very Good Reasons for not doing relationships.

I can't wait for you to meet these two!

If I were making one for my son, I'd need to make a big enough heart to fit "There are ESTABLISHED LYRICS to this song. You can't just MAKE WORDS UP for it."

🤣🤣🤣

2 books out today, 1 I was lucky enough to read an ARC of, and the other is by someone whose earlier stories have led me to expect this one to be great too! If you're looking for emotional, funny, swoony contemporary romances, try:
Olivia Dade's "At First Spite"
and
Laura Piper Lee's "Hannah Tate: Beyond Repair"!

Bad Contract Alert: NovelSnack/AnyStories/Readink - Writer Beware 09/02/2024

Bad Contract Alert: NovelSnack/AnyStories/Readink - Writer Beware This is another in my series of posts about poor contract terms from serialized fiction apps. A few months back, this email arrived in my Writer Beware inbox. I’ve never used Wattpad, so clearly they had me confused with someone else (maybe something to do with this?), but I never pass up the chan...

“Need a few more minutes to look?”
The waitress’s voice is familiar, smooth, and friendly, but I don’t remember any of July’s servers filling out the top of an apron quite so spectacularly.
Oh s**t, I’m staring at her chest. What am I, twelve? I yank my gaze up. “Sorry.”
Her smile is polite. Her big brown eyes are dead serious.
Oh, s**t, again. I know this woman. I sigh. “Snickers.”

Junk Book Marketing: Book Fair "Representation" - Writer Beware 07/02/2024

Junk Book Marketing: Book Fair "Representation" - Writer Beware What Is Junk Book Marketing? As I define it, it’s one-size-fits-all marketing that’s inexpensive to provide, can be (and usually is) sold at a huge markup, and is often of dubious value for book promotion. Press releases are a good example. They’re the sort of thing that “everybody knows” ...

Jolien was all over the news last year for her selfless act that kept her Belgian team from being disqualified at an international track and field event. She's a champion hammer-thrower and shot-putter, and when two of her teammates--hurdlers-- were out due to injuries, team Belgium faced disqualification unless they could put a hurdler on the track. Jolien stepped in, running the event, coming in dead last but earning two points for her team, keeping Belgium in the competition.

I was thinking about Jolien today because I'm so eager to see the final cover design for my Galway book 2 (What She's Having), July's story. At the time that Jolien hit the news last year, I emailed my editor at Sourcebooks and said, "This--THIS is what July would be like in real life." A big, strong, hardworking, generous, fiercely selfless and capable woman who puts the greater good ahead of herself.

I don't know what book cover July will look like, but Jolien is who I will always picture for her. ❤️

Books for the reluctant reader 03/02/2024

I was really tickled to get a Google Alert on this!
The Bookstore at Fitger's is in an inn on the lake in Duluth and it looks wonderful. I'm hoping to get to talk with them about Curves for Days one day soon.
Thank you, Jennifer, for recommending CfD!

Books for the reluctant reader February is I Love to Read Month, but the Bookstore at Fitger's knows that's not a true statement for everyone.

We know it's February, but take a moment to look back at 2023 with us! The Louisville Public Library had an incredible year.

My child is enamored of TheThatchingGuy on TikTok. That's a (?English? Scottish?) guy whose job is to maintain thatched roofs. He posts lots of videos of himself climbing ladders and...doing whatever he does to the thatching.
Anyway, my child is pressuring me to write a romance set in England and call it "Margaret's Thatcher."
