💜 Amethyst 💜 has been a well loved stone for thousands of years and is a perfect stone for not just crystal workers, but for everyone.
It is a variety of quartz where the presence of manganese produces amethyst, the additional amounts of iron vary the purple colouration. The darkest purple amethyst we sell is from Uruguay while most of the others are from Brazil.
Amethyst is believed to help with insomnia, to drive nightmares away, to calm fears, raise hopes and lend courage. You can wear pieces of jewellery to connect with it, have some by your bed or under your pillow.
Amethyst name comes from the Greek word meaning ‘not drunken’. A Greek myth describes how after an insult the god Bacchus threatens that the next person he meets will be eaten by his tigers, which was a woman named Amethyst on her way to Diana’s temple. Diana turned her into quarts to be protected from the attack. Bacchus in remorse pours his grape wine over her giving it this purple colour we know.
Amethyst is believed to help with addiction, by lending clarity to the mind it is more difficult for alcohol or drugs to alter one’s mood. It helps balance the nervous system and the brain. Amethyst is a great mental enhancing stone which is believed to increase psychic awareness and sharpen the sixth sense. It’s the perfect stone to have in your meditation space or on your altar.
Amethyst is the February and Pisces birthstone and connects with the third eye and crown chakra.
