Deeply saddened to inform that the Pride of Kodagus and the nation, LIEUTENANT GENERAL C N SOMANNA, PVSM passed away at his residence in Virajpet, Coorg at the age ripe old age of 92, having lived a glorious life. Former VCOAS, Lt Gen Somanna was Adjutant in Gurkhas in same Battalion as Gen Bipin Rawat. He was hand picked by Field Marshal K M Cariappa, when he converted 3 Infantry batallions into Brigade of Guards. As a Capt he was instructor in . He commanded 4 Guards in Udaipur and was DDMO as Brig during 1971 ops. He was 3 Div Commander in Leh, where he introduced Ice Hockey. He commanded the Corps at Jallandar. He was DMO during Operation Blue star and retired as Deputy Chief in the Army.
