The Soggy Bottom Farm Girls
Farm Life
Snack assistance by Amelia!
I love the outdoors, but sometimes I'm not so sure it loves me. 3rd wasp sting of the summer. This one on my finger. I was cleaning the barn on Tuesday. Didn't even see that they were making a nest in the wall. Took all precautions that night and suited up to spray. Mind you it was 90 degrees still... π₯΅ I can assure you they are all dead! Wednesday AM, I had a ridiculously & painfully swollen hand. After trying everything I had at home, had to go for steroid shot & steroid pills. I'm trying my best this week... hate how it makes me feel. BUT, 3 days later, my hand is back to normal (minus the sting mark & Blukote....I have chickens π€·ββοΈ) Thankful I thought to take off my grandmother's ring the minute after I was stung.... or it would've been cut off.
For the love of the animals, please! Today is July 6th. When did July 4th become a week long holiday. I'm in the country. Surrounded by farms with all kinds of livestock. The fireworks are stressful to them.
PSA from Capt'n One Eyed W***y π΄ββ οΈ: Please be safe this 4th of July if you're setting off fireworks. Savvy? Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate. Enjoy time with your family and friends this holiday! β€οΈπ€π
Thought the woods would be a relaxing environment to study for my Broker's license.....
I had no idea how lovable donkeys are! β€οΈπ«
Hot days call for goofing around....
Why do I have a little farm? How do I have the time? THIS is why. I make the time because it's therapeutic. My profession can be extremely stressful as can being a single parent. This is a longer video, but it shows a few things. 1. Listen.... the song birds, the chickens, the hay munching, the goats... 2. Have you heard of forest bathing? Look it up. See my stumps in the woods? 3. One of my favorite parts of owning horses was the grooming. A donkey is a little less maintenance than a horse, but still the same grooming. 4. Rewarding. This is 6 months of me working with W***y, consistently. In the beginning, we had to be on cross ties, with bins around him to limit his space. Picking his feet caused you to break a sweat. He was not a fan. This is him..... not tied at all. He walks off to take a p**p. Lol. Unlike horses, more like llamas, they like to p**p in the same spots. Like a litter box.
This is a longer video. Volume up if you want to hear part of my "why".
These girls were all hand raised. It's so cool when they're bonded to you. I sat down & they all come to sit with me.
Just some cute pics for you!
Amelia Fonash was over tonight, so she could get a photo of me in my Matt Matthews' "farm chores" robe. Lol. Bedtime tuck in though, not morning chores.
It's been HOT around here! Poor Betty is the last to shed out. I'm literally getting this much hair off her a couple times a day. She just zones out and stands there. Stewie : it's hot. What kills me is that it's so much cooler in the woods, but they're hanging in the barnyard. π€·ββοΈ
Portrait mode for our GOAT, Betty White! She's growing the tiniest of beards. I couldn't get the right angle.
I'm posting these in reverse..... I also have it on my bicep and never thought to look at my face. Left side of my face. Basically, he jumped out of my arms while I was putting it on & the applicator I was holding sprayed it everywhere. It's worse then getting sharpie on yourself. It does not come off easily. Well, it's my favorite color. π€·ββοΈ

Hot a$$ day here in PA.....
A little video footage of the birthday cutie. π«ππππ
Happy 4th Birthday W***y Wonka!!! We love you so much! Birthday photo shoot....
Some golden hour photos of this handsome guy, while he was "assisting" me. He's not so great with the rake & wheelbarrow.....
As IF Lenny would ever leave my side.
Spring is here! Time to get to work on the flower beds. Had my assistant, Lenny, looking for those dang grubs.
Public Service Announcement:π£π£ Remember to clean your Ass today! After all that rain, you don't want a muddy Ass today! ππ€£π€ππ« My One- Eyed-Jack πalso had a little time without his super hero helmet and some good scritchy-scratches. 1st time on a little walk. Definitely will take some getting used to. I talk to him alot, since I'm on his blind side, so I don't startle him.

1. 2 of my goats starting losing more hair than normal for shed out season. Treating for mites. Mother nature said: let's get bitter cold after 70 degrees for a week. Those 2 were shivering Monday night. This idiot runs out to Pickering Feed and buys dog coats. They look quite dapper. Note: the boys' wizzers (as my grandma called it) is in the middle of their stomach. Stewie soaked his underblanket (because of course I put 2 on each of them) which I didn't realize until I grabbed it to take off one layer in the AM. Niiiiice.
2. Do you remember Martha? My miracle chicken from last year? Survived fly strike & lived in my lower level for 2 months. Well, she has hemorrhoids. Apparently from too much seggsy time with the boys. Hemorrhoid cream 2x a day & living in my lower level again.
In good news, W***y's bandage came off yesterday. My one-eyed jack is healing great.
Whelp. That's what you get when you don't leave it alone!
The great part about being on my egg list? Delivery! I'm a Realtor, I live on the road. π€ͺ If I know you need eggs, I'll work you into my route. Win- win! Had a ride along today, Leonard. (And his "girlfriend", Laverne). We might do it more often! Everyone seemed to love seeing him. He's a good boy. Lenny says "Thanks for helping to pay for supper!"
Willard (his name when he's naughty) needs some good juju sent his way please. For his mama as well. I go out to give him his pain meds tonight. All is well. Giving the goats some extra carrot slices left. He was eating hay. Next thing you know, blood is dripping out of his bandage. Call the vet. They're great! They'll be out tomorrow. In meantime, dosed him with benadryl, shoved some more gauze down in his head wrap. Put a lump of gauze where his socket is and wrapped it over with vet wrap. Sorry pal, pink was all I had up there. Otherwise, he's feeling his sassy ass self.
Well, I share the good, the bad and the ugly here. There are so many joys to having my little farm. So many difficulties that come along with it. Last week, W***y ruptured his cornea. Most likely poked himself with a stick. The hole had resealed itself, but he would forever be blind. 2 options: Leave it be & it would slowly dry out, or have it removed. Removal would be much more comfortable for him, so that's what we planned for. Surgery was today. Dr. Frederickson & her assistant, Lisa, did an amazing job with their moving target. He was so sedated, he could barely stand. But he sure wanted to act like an ass. He'd slowly move. He was very numb, it wasn't hurting him. Trust me, we'd have known! Another day out of a Halloween gore movie. He's already feeling so much better! His girl, Betty, ran right in when I went up this evening to pick his stall and tuck him in. Heal up Mr. W***y! He needs a pirate patch now. Complete with pirate hat & parrot. I brought in a chair and figured I'd keep him company while getting some work done......
***There's blood, don't watch it if that bothers you!*** Everyone is OK though, no worries. Me, maybe not emotionally. 0/10. Do not recommend Llama with nosebleed. Sneezed on my face twice. A little stick poked up his nose while he was grazing on grass down the road. I had 1 paper towel in my pocket. That lasted 0 seconds. So we head back to my house. Some poor guy, with a car full of kids, pulls over so his kids can see Llama. I was like, we have a bloody nose, I'm sorry, we're trying to get home. Blood pouring out his nose. Kids probably traumatized. We go up my driveway bc I know I have a roll of paper towels in the car. I figured pressure, like a human. He mostly let me shove it up there, for a little. Would get it to slow, then he'd sneeze. On me. I just stood there in shock, splattered in blood. Is this really my real life? I could have skipped all of that, thank you.
I don't even know what to say.
Last night's cuddles before the cold.
