Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
Woman of all ages may experience abnormal uterine bleeding anytime during their lifetime. It is one of the most common gynecological complaints.
Abnormal uterine bleeding may present as
- heavy menstrual bleeding
- bleeding in between the periods
- bleeding after menopause

Menstrual cycle is usually irregular during the early few years when the cycle begins and during the last few years just before menopause

Causes Of Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
- uterine problems like fibroids, polyp or carcinoma
- cancer of the cervix
- ectopic pregnancy
- miscarriage
- hormonal imbalances
- use of contraceptives that contain hormones
- any bleeding disorder

How To Manage
- First of all rule out pregnancy.
- If heavy bleeding has led to iron deficiency give iron supplements
- NASIDs help to reduce heavy flow
- Active bleeding may need hormonal medicines to control and stop bleeding
- in cases of large fibroids or post menopausal bleeding with suspicion of cancer surgical treatment by removing the uterus .
