We still have thousands of new cases every day and new variants of the virus are coming. To reduce risk even more, consider wearing TWO MASKS ๐ท๐ท for more protection for yourself and others. Dr. Linsey Marr of Virginia Tech recommends a cloth mask on top of a surgical mask, for additional protection and better fit.

The best masks remain N95s, which are designed with ultrahigh filtration efficiency. But they remain in short supply for health workers, who need them to safely treat patients.
Layering two less specialized masks on top of each other can provide comparable protection. Dr. Marr recommended wearing face-hugging clothe masks over surgical masks, which tend to be made with more filter-friendly materials but fit more loosely. An alternative is to wear a cloth mask with a pocket that can be stuffed with filter material, like the kind found in vacuum bags.

Moving PPE! We have started to ship PPE to recipients and depend less on couriers. Yesterday we moved 1,000 face shields and 500 face masks from our reserves to volunteers helping with packing and shipping.
First of a batch of 5,000 silicone ear savers for frontline workers in NYC.
We are looking into GOWNS ๐, thanks to a design by our friends at SUNY Oneonta. (๐บ mask not included.)
We put the call out for 3D-printed face shield frames, and the community delivered in spectacular fashion, with many thousands of shield parts sent to us. With those, along with our injection molding run, we are confident that we have enough supplies on hand to meet current demand for face shields, and no longer need donations of 3D printed face shield parts for now.
If you have a pending batch of face shield frames, please DO NOT SEND IT TO US - let us know and we can help you find another group who are in more dire need.
Our sincerest thanks to all who sent in shield frames, many of whom did so at their own expense for materials and shipping - some many times over. We couldn't have come this far without you.
We'll be continuing to produce and distribute PPE, of course - this pandemic is nowhere near over, and we have much work to do.
We're still hard at work with our friends at the NYC Face Mask Initiative to make and distribute 100% cotton face masks. Here are 306 pounds of fabric laundered, folded, and on their way to become face masks thanks to our volunteer sewists.
Today, in collaboration with Masks For Docs' NJ Chapter, we delivered 800 face shields to Hackensack Meridian, the Inglemoor Center, and Saint Peter's Hospital. Thanks to our dedicated couriers for getting these supplies directly into the hands of the staff who need them.
We buy plastic by the pallet, elastic by the mile, and hand sanitizer by the gallon to help protect the workers who protect you. Please donate so we can continue to produce PPE for NYC frontline workers.
Visit us at https://nycmakesppe.com/ to make a contribution for today. The first $5,000 in donations will be matched 1:1.
Our volunteers contribute their days nights and weekends to make PPE for frontline workers. But the materials arenโt free. Please donate to keep them well-stocked and producing supplies to protect those who need it the most.
Our friends at BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group have 3D printed thousands of face shield frames for us to distribute. Here are some of the frontline workers who have received face shields made from BIG frames.

As of today, we've delivered 22,986 articles of PPE to frontline workers across the five boroughs. We're continually humbled by the effort that our volunteers are putting in printing, assembling, cutting, packing, and distributing shields and masks, and by the support we've received from the community of makers who've donated supplies, funds and parts.

Today, thanks to the generous donations we've received, we took delivery of our first injection-molded parts for medical face shields from Protolabs. This is a huge milestone for us, marking a big step up in our production output.
Injection molding is how most of the plastic objects in the world are made: a steel mold is filled with hot plastic and then cools very quickly, producing four frames in just a few seconds--up to about 10,000 per day. Much faster than 3D Printing!
We expect to produce about 20,000 of these in the coming days. They're made from medical grade polypropylene (PP) which can be easily sterilized with common chemicals and re-used indefinitely.
Our volunteers are already hard at work packaging these for distribution throughout NYC.
