It's a great day to work at the City of Lumberton Fire Department. We were recently notified of passing inspection for rescue services in the following areas; Medical Responder, Light Rescue, Water Rescue-Swift Water. This is just the beginning of our vision.

The Fire Department has provided medical services since the 1970's. After the events of Hurricanes Matthew and Florence, the decision was made to increase our standard of cover. Starting in 2017, our personnel have continuously trained and become certified in Technical Rescue, Water Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, and Wilderness Rescue.

The administration has procured funding through the operational budget over many years and with the assistance of multiple grants from various donors. Our desire is to be able to respond to any emergency within the city limits (or where called) and affect a positive outcome whether its fire, medical or rescue services.

The primary mission of the Lumberton Fire Department is to provide a range of programs designed to protect the lives and property of the inhabitants of the City of Lumberton from the adverse effects of fire, sudden medical emergencies or to exposure to dangerous conditions created by either man or nature.

Congratulations Chief Brian Nelson on your retirement. Thank you for your service and dedication.

After 30 years of service, the last 20 being with the City of Lumberton Fire Department, Battalion Chief Brian Nelson signed off this morning for the final time.

Chief Nelson served the citizens of the City of Lumberton the last 20 years, constantly striving to help improve the department. He invested time into his officers and firefighters, helping mold many into the leadership of the department today. Chief Nelson believed an untrained firefighter was a dangerous firefighter and continuously pushed the men and women under his command to be the best. Motto of the shift? “Failure isn’t an option.” Chief Nelson was instrumental in helping improve the rescue services at Lumberton Fire also.

Congratulations Chief Nelson on your well deserved retirement. God speed brother.

If you are in the area of 150 Jackson Court (intersection of Fayetteville Rd and Jackson Court) you may notice a heavy fire department presence over the next several days. The motel (Super 8) has been slated for demolition and the owners have granted City of Lumberton Fire Department the opportunity for some hands-on training. We will be on site during the evenings from 630-1030 each night. You will hear saws running, ladders being thrown, and good basic firemanship being practiced. The building is slated for demolition starting Next week.
