Texas governor Greg Abbott decided to celebrate his re-election by treating human beings like political props and transporting legal immigrants (at great expense to taxpayers, via companies owned by his friends and donors) to sanctuary cities, including, today, my home of Philadelphia. The group arrived — without even a courtesy heads-up from the Lone Star State —at 30th Street Station early this morning. It included two infants and a child who was taken to the hospital and treated for a high fever.
I’m appalled. But I’m not surprised. As ever, the cruelty is the point…and in the Gospel of MAGA, “for I was a stranger and you welcomed me” is now “for I was a stranger and you lured me onto a bus and sent me to a strange city thirty hours away to own the libs.”
I’ll be making an extra donation to HIAS Pennsylvania in Greg Abbott’s honor.
I thank him for the reminder that “arrived in this country, fleeing persecution, in search of a better life, with no money, not speaking the language” describes my my grandparents and great-grandparents, my husband’s grandparents, and maybe some of yours, too.
