My first single as a solo artist in two and a half years drops tonight at midnight. You’d think I’d be ecstatic and excited (and I am), but I am also irrationally panicky and dreading the disappointment of it “flopping” (whatever that means for an independent artist with a following in the dozens/low hundreds).

It’s one song. It’s under five minutes, but literal years of work went into this. I began writing the lyrics in July of 2021, started recording it three separate times only to abandon it twice, made two attempts at the artwork only to have the save files eaten by my computer (and had to be subsequently bailed out by the incredibly talented Chloe, who did an excellent job). As with all my work, I wrote all the lyrics, played all the instruments, recorded everything by myself at home, and mixed and mastered the track. The birth of this one song has been a long, excruciating process, and it sounds almost NOTHING LIKE anything I’ve done before.

In my heart of hearts, I KNOW this is the best thing I’ve ever done, but for whatever reason, I’ve been doubting how people will receive or react to it (or whether anyone will even care enough to listen). The few of my close friends who have heard it are saying positive things, but also they’re my close friends, so…🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyway…all I’m saying is, I really hope y’all like it. If you’ll give me five minutes of your time, I’d like to share something that took over two years of work, deliberation, self-doubt, revision, and finally acceptance that NOTHING is ever as good as we want it to be. I love you all, and if you give my song a chance to work its way into your heart, I love you double.

Guitarists:

Recently, I started practicing with my eyes closed again. I used to do this sometimes, but I never did it with any discipline or regularity. I’m noticing, though, that doing it consistently has made me MUCH more comfortable navigating position shifts and singing while playing.

So, am I late to the party on this? Does everyone do this, and if so, have you found that it helps? If not, are you planning to try it?

IF I were to put together a band to perform my solo material live, would I have any guitarist friends who would be interested in backing me up? I would need at LEAST 1-2 very competent rhythm/lead players who can recreate somewhat idiosyncratic parts (I would, of course, be willing to teach and/or provide guitarpro tabs). This is in the planning stages still, and I haven’t even written all the material, but I’m trying to see if there is any interest at all. So, if you wanna jam, hit me up in a comment or message me, please and thank you! (Also, don’t be shy. I don’t need virtuoso players, just people who can perform well and learn the material)

OCTOBER 29!!!

We haven’t said much lately, but that’s only because we’ve been hard at work recording an ALBUM!!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻

It’ll be a little while before we’re finished with the album, but in honor of spooky season 👻 we’ll be releasing a single titled “Cold, Dead, Night” on OCTOBER 29TH 🩸
