When it comes to using a chainsaw, it's essential to choose the right accessories to maximize performance and stay safe. I learned this firsthand while clearing and transforming a 10-acre wooded property in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom into a beautiful park-like recreational area. It was quite a project, but it gave me valuable insights into the accessories and tools that can make your work easier, save time, and reduce physical strain.

Found our first ever fiddleheads in the NEK. The patch was huge but many were already too grown out so we left about 85% of them alone.
A few flowers are starting to bloom in our garden here in the NEK.

Skiing one of the many unmarked secret glades at Burke Mountain in East Burke, Vermont. This run starts as a glade and turns into a downhill mountain bike trail. The trail zig-zags down the mountain and starts getting steeper halfway down. At this point, I start hauling ass through the trees!

I spent my last day of March skiing at Burke Mountain in some of the best conditions of the season. The mountain had 3+ inches of mostly untouched blown powder over all the natural terrain. I spent the entire day skiing glades, unmarked trees, and downhill mountain bike trails. With only a week of skiing left at Burke, I had to revisit my favorite trail that I've mostly neglected this season.
Before today, I had never skied it without stopping several times. I went into it once in the morning with a friend, and again we stopped several times. So I decided to return at the end of the day and do my first non-stop run down it! It would have been better to do it hours earlier as my leg muscles were tired and aching by the time I exited the trail.

When visiting Burke Mountain, one of the first marked glades you may experience is the Sasquatch Glade off of Upper Whiloughby. When conditions are right, this is one incredible glade to ski through. It is a bit tight, especially at the beginning, but it is pretty mellow, and there are many options to choose from to connect different lines. I always love popping into these woods to warm me up for the next glades downhill, Dixieland.

Today I skied Waterville Valley in New Hampshire with Gabe Holm for the first day this season. We were there for the Demo Days event, so I was able to try out a bunch of different skis and fell in love with a few of them. While demoing the Blizzard Brahama 88's, Gabe captured a run of me with my GoPro. He is the first person to film me on skis, and even though he couldn't keep up with me in the end, I'm stoked to be able to finally be able to watch myself. Thanks, Gabe.

I spent the entire summer cleaning up a section of the woods and cutting trees to create two ski glades. Now that we have a bit of snow here in Vermont, I finally was able to get a few runs in today and enjoy the fruits of my labor. The cover is a bit thin, but skiing through the trees was so much fun! I can't wait to spend the winter skiing the house whenever I'm not on the mountain! Check out the video of today's adventure! New episode out now. Link in bio.
Today’s haul; milk caps, slippery jacks, common puffballs and boletes
Nice haul from the woods surrounding our house today.

For the third episode of Vermonting with Jan Welch, I tear down and rebuild the cinder block fire pit I built three years ago to burn trees and brush from the woods. This pit has seen nearly 100 significant burns in its lifetime. Between the extreme heat of the fires combined with the frigid cold of Northern Vermont, the cinder blocks have crumbled into decay. Follow me as I deconstruct and build a new cinder block fire pit to continue our weekly burns.

We've picked six gallons of blackberries so far on the property. I plan to collect four more gallons before we start making jam. We will be selling Jam online and locally. I will make a post when they are available and a YouTube video about the process.

For the second episode of Vermonting with Jan Welch, I go mushroom hunting with my mom. Today we are exploring the part of the property where I will be building ski glades and where I filmed my last video about the Brush Grubber. We set out to find Chanterelles and Milk Caps and ended up discovering not only those but several Wax Caps, some Dead Man's Fingers, and many other unidentified mushrooms. If you know the identification of any of them, please leave it in the comments section below.

Over the past couple of years, I have cut down hundreds of sapling trees on our property and then removed the stumps by hand using a hatchet, clippers, and other tools. Although I have become very good at removing most trees by hand, I've dealt with many trees that take up way too much time and energy to extract. When I heard about the Brush Grubber, I knew this was a tool I would love to use to help me quickly remove trees. I read mixed reviews online and watched tutorial videos on YouTube. I noticed that people having issues with this tool were misusing it by failing to read the three short paragraphs in the provided instructions.
I purchased the Original Brush Grubber for trees up to 3" to use with my Honda Rancher 420cc ATV. This video will discuss what other items you need to make the brush grubber work with your ATV. You will see me use the Brush Grubber for the first time, demonstrate how to use it properly, and test it out on trees of different thicknesses up to 3". The Brush Grubber makes removing tree stumps simple, and you don't need to worry about them ever growing back. This tool is worth the money and pays for itself. I have added links below to purchase the Brush Grubber, Chain, Hitch, and Loppers I used in the video. I receive a small commission off any purchase you make on Amazon, allowing me to create more content for this channel.
