Why Self-directed Education:
Homeschooling has increased 75% between 1999 and 2019 to more than 2 million students who are homeschooled nationally (Pries, 2020) with the start of the pandemic in 2020 and the rise in remote learning via public and private educational institutions the need for more structure and guidance in the choice of homeschooling has become an essential need for families. In addition, families in low-income communities are left with little options for their children’s education. Our center will not only focus on working- and middle-class families, but it will also seek to incorporate families who feel they have less options due to their economic status. With not just a personalized academic and social/emotional plan, students and their families will also be provided with a place they can find resources and support to help them navigate and progress in this ever-changing world. With a Christian based foundation, our future leaders and their families will find the structure and support needed to successfully navigate these difficult and ever-changing times, while leading each student towards leadership, advocacy, and community outreach. Students begin to teach their peers and become leaders in their own right and inspire them to leave a positive imprint on the world.
