A must read!! Happy 4th ❤️🤍💙

We’re calling this a public service announcement. But, full transparency, it’s mostly benefitting us.

Over the next 24-48 hours lots of things will be making noise in the air, in your neighborhood, and maybe even in your backyard. Not only will fireworks be flying tonight and tomorrow, tempers will also be flaring.

That’s why, Walton County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers would like to provide a comprehensive list of the do’s and don’ts in regards to calling 9-1-1 this holiday weekend.

Don’t call 9-1-1 because:

People are setting off fireworks.
Fireworks debris is landing in my yard.
My husband is too upset to sleep.
My cat is afraid of folks shooting off fireworks.

Do call 9-1-1 when:

People just set their house on fire setting off fireworks.
Body parts are landing in my yard.
My husband won’t wake up.
My cat is shooting back at folks shooting off fireworks.

Ya get our drift?

We know some have a sensitivity to fireworks. New Florida law says they are legal on certain holidays. The Fourth of July being one of them. So folks can lawfully set off fireworks.

Our best advice is to prepare for this as much as possible. Even if that means packing up camp and heading somewhere away from all these people.

Doesn’t that sound nice? I mean, not for us obviously. We have to work. But, maybe for you!

To help veterans cope with holidays like the Fourth of July, the VA provides these tips:

Avoid avoidance.
Remind yourself where you are and what is happening around you.
Change the body's temperature.
Schedule meaningful activities you enjoy.
Prioritize your mental health and seek treatment.

We’re here if you need us.
