We learned all about rocks on Earth Day. We got to look at them under magnifying glasses and sort them. We also got to look at everyone’s rock collections which were awesome!

The kids had a great time doing science stations today to help finish our unit on Animal and Plant Adaptations. We tested out “beaks”, “claws”, “webbed feet”, “spines/ thorns”, camouflage, and matched human tools to animal adaptations.

We had a great time on our field trip Friday! It was a little chilly, but we had a good time learning about recycling, soil, the Water Cycle, and seeing really cool animals from the zoo!
I played the best trick on the kids today! I told them that we needed to do a "flood drill!" We discussed all the safety rules and what we should do in a flood and then they practiced! It was so funny. They were very serious about it and thought it was so funny when I told them it was an April Fool's joke!

So, I had some fun with the kids today for April Fool's Day. The other first grade teachers and I wore the team that we do not usually root for so that means I wore K-State today (with my Jayhawk shirt underneath! They were pretty confused at first and then kept asking, "When are you going to take that off?" :) So, I let them choose if they wanted to take a picture with Wildcat me or Jayhawk me... well most of them wanted both! A few did not want a Wildcat picture. :) Rock Chalk!

This week we learned how to measure with nonstandard units. They did a great job with this unit and it was fun!
