In the aftermath of a week of absolute mayhem and destruction, we as a community are counting the damage and losses suffered by many in our community.
The community of Palmview and more specifically Firpalm Close are suffering the loss of a true hero , Mr Shaun Chetty. Shaun was well known in the area for protecting and standing up for his neighbours and the community. He was always available to assist anyone in need. He was a humble breadwinner who provided not just for his immediate family but also for many others who were in need.
On Monday the 12th of July at around 9pm Shaun was brutally attacked and murdered outside his home in full view of the neighbours and community he was trying to protect. This cowardly act was carried out NOT by the looters or protesters but by a fellow neighbour. Shaun was unexpectedly attacked by a violent and cowardly person well known to the community. The reasons for this vicious attack we will never understand. The level of violence used by this person was totally undeserved by Shaun. He was struck not once but 3 times with a pick handle, with the last blow fracturing his skull. He tragically passed away on Thursday the 15th of July. We are struggling to come to terms with this loss especially as this was so unnecessary and Shaun did not deserve to die in this manner.
The person who committed this malicious crime has been arrested. He is due to appear at a bail hearing on Monday the 19th of July (To be confirmed). We should not call him a suspect as that would imply there is some doubt as to his actions. He is GUILTY as witnessed by our community, he violently and unnecessarily attacked Shaun who didn't fight back as this attack was so unexpected. We as the community of Palmview are seeking for Shaun. The GUILTY person in this crime is the son of a former Metro police officer and we are well aware of the affiliations they may have with law enforcement and we fear they may try to escape justice in his matter. We as a community cannot and will not allow this to happen. We will fight for justice , we will fight for Shaun as he did for us on many occasions.
