we experience every day differently & we feel differently every day, so why would we expect to move the same way every day? that’s not fair
just because you challenged yourself yesterday on the mat doesn’t mean you have to do the same today. maybe today, you crave something different. this does not define you — you are not better or worse because you could or couldn’t do something

don’t get me wrong, i love movements that are unfairly marketed as “toning,” “sculpting” and “lengthening.” they feel the best in my body and this is why i stick to them, and at the same time, it’s super damaging to continue using these trendy, fear-mongering words — especially because they are plain out wrong
*this realization can feel overwhelming & upsetting - i encourage you to reach out to a body-image therapist who can help guide you through these thoughts

i don’t have all the answers but i do know a few things:
- i absolutely undoubtedly love what i do (and am filled with gratitude for )
- to make just one person smile & remind them that their voice is impactful is everything i need to do to pursue my purpose
- barre kicks ass & while movement is not medicine, it’s a wonderful way to create & release energy

all of you is welcome here
this is something i’ve been saying in my classes recently because, honestly, sometimes i struggle with welcoming all of myself — the parts of myself that make me uncomfortable, the parts i’m learning to work through, the parts that i tend to hide
in the spaces that i create, i want you to feel safe to bring all of you because all of you is welcome

just as you are not your thoughts, your feelings do not define you — your feelings are not what you are they are your feedback
today, instead of holding onto every emotion that arises, let’s try to question why we are feeling such things. reframing, “i am anxious — period” to “i feel anxious and i think it’s because i tried something new today and it threw me off my game. i understand this and i know i am safe even with the anxiety”

raise your hand 🙋🏻‍♀️ if you’ve ever heard me say this (and if you’re reading this for the first time, let the words settle)
there is purpose to this, i don’t just start every class with these four words randomly. so often, we run from one activity to the next, one thought to the next, one outside noise to the next — and, for me, i need the reminder that we are able to intentionally set our own space by looking inward and rooting down to the earth. i hope that when we move together, we try to create space for ourselves and one another simply by settling in and settling down
