My battle against ovarian cancer

My battle against ovarian cancer

Hello ! I’m Emma , 24 year old from north east England and diagnosed with ovarian cancer!

In the face of adversity, she stood tall
A warrior in her own right, never to fall
Surviving the battle, against ovarian cancer

Brave and fearless, she faced the unknown
A journey of strength, all on her own
Through the pain and the tears, she never gave up

With courage and grace, she fought with all her might
Surviving each day, embracing the light
Her spirit unbroken, her soul shining bright

Ovarian cancer may have tried to bring her down
But her resilience and bravery turned it all around
A survivor, a fighter, a beacon of hope

In the darkness, she found the strength to cope
And through it all, she never lost faith
Her unbreakable spirit, a true testament to grace.

Look at my amazing hair transformation!! Can you believe this is MY hair🤩

Seen my consultant today who done my surgery! She’s really happy with everything still and how my scars have healed. She wants to keep me on her books but won’t be regular appointments she will do telephone calls.

With it being low grade cancer it’s not as aggressive as high grade so if I was to have a reoccurrence it won’t be till a few years if I do.

She said it’s all in my hands now, if I feel like I need to see her then to ring her and she will get me straight in rather than taking me off and having to start the process again. She said she wants to keep me under her name as I was a very complex case so she doesn’t want to get rid of me just yet🤣

All my bloods are fine and they are keeping an eye on my bones too 🥳

You may remember us telling you about a fantastic group of people who took part in the Paras' 10 Race back in September 2023.

This is a 10 mile gruelling endurance race based on the 10 miler from The Parachute Regiment's test week. Some of the team completed the race wearing 35lb backpacks and boots! 💪

We just wanted to update you with their final total raised as they received another generous donation recently.

Drum roll please 🥁.........the team raised a staggering £2,395.00! 👏

Huge thanks to the team again which is made up of Jessica Colledge, Wayne Summerfield, Chris Graham, Graham McKenna, John Fairhurst and Ben Brown 🙏👏

They all took on the challenge as Jessica's sister Emma Colledge (who is one of our amazing ambassadors) was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer in 2022 at the age of 23. After 3 major surgeries and 6 sessions of chemo, Emma got the amazing news she was all clear last May ❤️

Below is a photo of Emma, with Chris on the left and Ben on the right, collecting their recent donation.

Thanks again and well done to everyone involved in raising such a huge amount of money. This will make a big difference to our life saving work 🙏

Another year over and done, another year of raising awareness for ovarian cancer💙

Thank you to everyone who continues to follow my journey although it’s near the end I will forever raise awareness for ovarian cancer!!

Keep an eye out for some new things happening in the new year for raising awareness, I can’t wait to work alongside The Robin Cancer Trust!!

This year I finished my chemo, lost all my hair.. but also got so much confidence, had my stoma reversed and the biggest, got the all clear against cancer.

Here’s to a happy healthy 2024!! Let’s raise as much awareness as possible for this disease🦋💙

23/12/2023

So after 66 dressing changes, many different doctors appointments and 100millions issues with getting dressings my stoma reversal is finally all healed!!

Massive shout out to Shaun Matthews who’s has hands down been the most AMAZING nurse in the whole world sorting me out every week, squeezing me in last minute and sorting out all my appointments and dressing issues, without you this wouldn’t have been possible! Not just a nurse but one of my friends who I tormented every single day🤣

And to nurses Demi and Claire who have also been amazing on this journey start to finish ❤️

This journey has now ended thank god!! Here’s to a healthy happy new year🥂❤️

30/11/2023

Wheyyyyy I’ve got 2 advent calendar’s 🤣 I know which one I prefer 🤤

17/11/2023

Most of you know that in September, 5 work colleagues and Jess all done the Paras 10 in aid of The Robin Cancer Trust.

Yesterday we heard that the PSCF have added £500 to our total making it a whopping …. £2,395

That amount is absolutely insane and I know how much it will help raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer for the younger generation!

Incredibly proud of them all for that challenge as it wasn’t easy!!

The Robin Cancer Trust will ALWAYS have a big place in my heart and I will always try and raise money for them! The work they do is outstanding for the Young people that are affected by either Ovarian Cancer or Testicular Cancer ❤️

16/11/2023

Spoke to my consultant today, all my bloods are perfect… except my liver🤣 we don’t know what’s wrong with it still, I’m going to have some more specialist bloods taken and an ultrasound on my liver. It could be the penicillin I’m on due to having no spleen or it could be the chemo has irritated the liver but she’s not concerned it’s just not normal 🤣I don’t have diabetes or anything so we might have ti try either some different antibiotics for my spleen or if we can’t find out what’s wrong then the Freeman liver specialist will see me and see what we can do about it✌🏼 but she’s going to catch up with me again in 6 weeks 😊

12/11/2023

I couldn’t take part In the remembrance parade last year as I had only been out of hospital 3 weeks but I did attend the festival of remembrance. This year I attended the remembrance parade in houghton❤️

01/11/2023

Should probably come on here and do an update.

It’s been a month since I had my reversal, thankfully I’ve had no issues with it and surgery went well.

I get my dressings packed and changed daily to help it heal quicker which is working thank god! I’ve had LOADS of issues with dressings and trying to supply them but I think finally we’ve managed to get that sorted 🤞🏼 apart from a couple of bad experiences with my doctors/ urgent care I genuinely couldn’t fault my regular nurses who I see all the time!! They’re absolutely amazing 💓

I go back to work next week which I’m excited for😁 however I will still need it doing daily until they think I can go every other day but I’d rather be safe and keep myself from infection!

It’s honestly insane how much you take things for granted when having a stoma, yes I know for some it’s amazing and they can’t live without it! But for me yes I needed it but I’m so glad it’s gone. People take things for granted which you wouldn’t think about I can now actually tie my shoe laces without any issues I can wear jeans without feeling uncomfortable, I can wear belts again! Little things you don’t think about until you’re in that situation! I even get extra time in bed without having to be up earlier to change my bag🤣🤣

I can’t wait to eat a big fat Christmas dinner with loads of pigs in blankets🤩

27/09/2023

After 2 cancelled ops and one to be happening on the 23rd… I came out of work to a call saying I’ve got my operation for my stoma reversal on MONDAY

Never been so excited to have a sh*te on the toilet it’s been a long year 🤣

11/09/2023

So my stoma reversal surgery that was supposed to happen on the 19th September has been cancelled AGAIN 💔 this is the second time now due to strikes I’ve had my surgery cancelled!! Roll on the 23rd October🤞🏼 3rd time lucky 🍀

Few of my work colleagues are going to be taking part in paras 10 at the end of September to raise money for The Robin Cancer Trust.

Please have a read of the story … it’s about me 😏

They’re all entering as a team called HMP Frankland and have all been training for this! So please any penny counts 💙

I will be going down to watch them go through the pain while i laugh and take some pics of them🤣

I know times are extremely hard, if you can’t donate please share and make other people aware of the symptoms aswell!

‼️Common symptoms of ovarian cancer include:
feeling constantly bloated
a swollen tummy

Well after 11months that’s it…. My consultant at the QE has signed me off. I will see her one more time after my stoma surgery and then it’s just under the consultant at the Freeman.

Couldn’t get my scan results today as they weren’t ready but I’ll be getting them next week anway! All my bloods are fine and she can’t believe that I’m living my life as normal!

She also gave me the results from yesterday and that’s all clear so I’m able to have my stoma reversed just waiting on a date for that! She’s extremely positive and thinks my scans going to be all good!

She was also shocked that I was living my life as normal only 6 months after my surgery🤣

Today marks 11months since I got told I had cancer… and I’m pretty much living life the same except for my stops🤩

Nothing has and nothing will ever stop me💓

01/08/2023

So today I went for a X-ray on my bowel to make sure I can have surgery.

I need to have this done as in previous surgery they cut away some of my bowel and rejoined it, that’s why I had the stoma so it could heal.

Today they put a tube up me arse🤣 then put a clear water e***a contrast in and took photos to make sure nothing leaks out of the join.

It certainly wasn’t the nicest but it didn’t hurt just uncomfortable, I don’t get the results my bowel surgeon will and if it’s okay surgery will be booked soon as.

So let’s hope I get a date for surgery soon as my last one was cancelled, which is a pain in the arse 😉

30/07/2023

Busy weeks this week with hospital appointments 🤯 Bone scan tomorrow, X-ray for bowel on Tuesday and then scan results on Wednesday from my consultant 🧐

May aswell live at the hospital this week

10/07/2023

Got a date for my stoma reversal🤩15th august and it will be gone woooo 🎊

08/07/2023

“ You’ve got the all clear, you should be so happy”

Absolutely don’t get me wrong however somethings that people don’t mention are the things that are the hardest.

I don’t recognise myself anymore my body and appearance has changed so much, and I know that’s not important, the most important is that it’s carried me through the hardest times.

Yet I still always look back and I wish I had my long hair back and I wasn’t as chubby as I was.

You get people making comments about your hair, people you wouldn’t expect. But what can you do? Nothing you have to laugh and get on with it but deep down it hurts! It hurts so bad… I didn’t choose to have cancer and loose my hair!

So instead of telling me what to do with my hair ( unless you are my hairdresser) just shut up, telling me to do something with it cause you look like a boy, well if I cut it it’s going to grow in different lengths and I don’t want that, so no I won’t cut it.

Just remember if you’ve got nothing nice to say then don’t say it! I might laugh along with it but that’s just putting a face on but deep down it gets to you.

So here’s a big f**k you to anyone that’s made a comment to my face or behind my back about my hair!
