SEAGULLET- Beanie
A new design just released!

The seagullet motif was inspired by a seagull that I saw in September 2019 during a trip to Shetland. The cute bird was following me while walking on Norwick beach in Unst and I took several photos of it. When back home I drew the chart and knitted a swatch, which I left in a drawer for over 3 years. Then suddenly I resumed it refining the colour combination and ta-daaaaa, a new slightly slouchy beanie was born!

Yesterday I went to and it was amazing to see how buzzing it was! In the pics are my purchases for knitting custom socks for my square-ish small feet! I always struggle to find a pattern that includes my size (UK4), they often result too big and buggy, so I decided to make my own pattern. I’m trying also to buy as much as possible from independent dyers. The 2 skeins on blue/green (cool shades) are from , a very exciting discovery for me. The third skein (warm shades) is from who also has very exciting colourways.

Breaking a long silence — Klakla Designs Writing again on this blog after a very long silence is not easy! But here I’m attempting it! My last two designs!
If you are a swimmer and a knitter you may enjoy making this hat I recently designed. It is called EASING FLOW - Tam & Beanie.
I designed this pattern to mark my first wonderful experience of open-water swimming in the winter season! Asking my swimming buddies to suggest a name for this design, Patrick, a legendary swimmer of the local lakes I swim to, suggested the name of Easing flow, which perfectly describes the effect that open water swimming has on us that are practising it! The design has 2 options for the motif repeat: in one option the swimmers go in one direction in one band and they are mirrored in the next band, going in the opposite direction. In the other option two different phases of crawl stroke are shown, one in each band, but the swimmers are orientated in the same direction. You have a few combinations to play with!
Pattern instructions for Easing flow are on sale at: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/easing-flow
or at: https://www.klakladesigns.com/.../eg1f15xhwueyo6bbiux0335...
If you prefer a TRIATHLETES - Beanie here is another pattern for you! After designing Easing Flow, the idea to knit a slouchy beanie with a triathlon theme came naturally. I’m not a triathlete, nor an athlete, just an amateur! This year I turned 50 and not only I’ve resumed swimming (indoors and in open waters) but I started to run 5k on Saturday ParkRun. I’m not a regular participant but I’m enjoying it. Now with bikes I don’t have an incredible feeling, I used to cycle a bit as a child and teenager, but growing up I always preferred motorbikes/ scooters, less tiring, but who knows maybe in my 60s I will pick up a bike!
These activities led me to meet many lovely people and great athletes that compete in Duathlon and/or Triathlon; the community around the lakes I go swimming for example are so supportive and fun people to be around. I wanted to include this experience in one hat that can be worn during waiting time at sports events or on a relaxing day.

Transumanza -poncho
This is my first submission for My Place competition organised by &co
I was busy with two other projects (one is for this competition too) when the idea of this design struck my mind, and I felt the urgency to knit it immediately!
Transumanza is the Italian term for transhumance that means ‘crossing the land’. It is a traditional migration of sheep and cows from the highlands to the lowlands, and back which happens twice a year.
Transumanza is an ancient tradition vital in Abruzzo, but not exclusive of Abruzzo. People would move with their livestock to higher pastures in spring/summer time and to lower valleys in Autumn time. The paths along where they moved are called tratturi, and they represent important elements of our heritage still now. I am going to write more about the inspiration behind this design in my blog in the next few days.
The shepherds would wear traditional capes or blankets worn as ponchos. To my poncho, I applied a bold rhomboidal geometrical motif (I consider geometry my place too in a non-geographical sense, of course!). It is a motif that comes with some twists and rotations from the same sketch from which Gradient mesh originated.
As the motif has a large repeat, I found that a poncho was the perfect garment that would enhance the pattern; on the other hand, the pattern is giving a modern feature to an old traditional cape.
I chose to knit Transumanza with five shade of Milarrochy Tweed: Hirst, Garth, Ardlui, Tarbet and Lochan, which reflect the colours seen by the shepherds and sheep in springtime migration.
I planned another palette with autumnal colours too, to reflect the second yearly transumanza; I will knit a swatch of this second version, but I couldn’t wait any longer to post it today!
It is constructed with two identical rectangular panels, each of them are knitted in the round and steeked.

If ‘Transumanza’ won’t be chosen for it will be released later.

While in the UK we are having the sunniest spring since record began, in Abruzzo is snowing! The pic of Velino mountain has been shot and sent to me by my sister this morning.
This is the mountain that inspired me to design Velino set (a slouch and a matching pair of mitts) included in Colour Moves collection! klakladesigns.com/blog/velino
