Allotment 62A
After two years on the waiting list, I've been allocated a brand new council allotment. I'm a complete beginner vegetable grower with no idea of what I'm doing!
I'm also a keen amateur photographer and will use photos and this page to tell you my story.
Hardening off these babies in the polytunnel.
Prepping cabbage ready for freezer. Never grown cabbage before and still can't believe how amazing these have turned out.!!
So happy with my cabbage harvest today!
So many beans, just a few tomatoes. Yummy!
Spuds!!!
Won't be long before we can add these peppers to our harvest! Have brought home more beetroot, beans and cucumbers today. Loving our daily harvest at the moment
Yesterday's harvest!
Success! A basket full of beets. And beautiful bees creating a smiley face on a sunflower 🌻
The flowers on this marrow in my are stunning!!
Runner Beans, Aubergines - and evidence of an unwelcome visitor 😠
Cucumber salad anyone?
When you go away for 17 days and your lovely allotment association do an amazing job looking after your plot .... I've just got yo keep it all alive now!!! 😆
Woohoo! First ever vegetable and first ever cucumber, will be in our salad tomorrow lunchtime!!!
Finally! We have runner beans in the ground!!
Wheeee!!! My first actual vegetable - a beautiful courgette. Yum yum xx
So excited!! Brussels and beetroot sprouting - and spuds in the ground!!!
The 'big dig' continues....
At last! The polytunnel is being used for it's true purpose and is now more than just a storage area!
And "sow" it begins! I managed to find some time and a rest from the 'big dig' to sow some seeds whilst dodging the downpours at home today. Got some Brussels and Beetroot in. Still a way to go, but excited to be finally starting 🌱
More digging today 💪! Had a little helper - glad he was picking the grubs not the worms ❤️
All by myself at the allotment today
Polytunnel up, and anchored down!!! Fingers crossed it'll stand up to the Great British weather 🤞🍀🌱🌬
End of day 8. Polytunnel frame constructed today, but left the polythene cover off for tonight as we were running short of time and wouldn't have been able to anchor it down properly! Feels like it's starting to look like an allotment now...
Dug up a few of these Monsters over the last few days. Some of them are massive!!!
Oh dear! Time to call it a day when your cultivator does this 😂
Working solo today and what a fabulous day to be on the allotment! My polytunnel has been delivered so now clearing an area to accommodate it. Think I've probably done about half the size we need - hopefully finish over next few days and get the tunnel up so we can start sowing.
Day 4 - we cleared a bit further but found a pipe, which turns out to be a water pipe leading to the troughs! Don't know how long it'll be before the council move the pipe, but that's scuppered my plans to 'rush' and get some early potatoes in! Dog thought we couldn't see him hiding behind blade of grass 😂
Day 3 - it rained all day today so no photos, but we did go down to the allotment. We needed to weigh down the polythene cover a bit more, so we took some bricks and laid those. I also laid chicken wire under the compost bin so help prevent rats, so that we can use food waste as well as garden waste.
End of day 2 - grass strimmed and covered in plastic to try and suppress growth and make it easier to clear (ran out of polythene so covered as much as poss). Compost bin ground space cleared and waiting for chicken wire to be laid underneath.
