To help show prospective employees what’s about the Waseca community, Lead For Minnesota and the Waseca Area Chamber of Commerce invite you to participate in a new pilot program this summer for students interning or apprenticing in Waseca. *Due to the pandemic and many internships being postponed until 2022, the 2021 pilot program was also extended to any Waseca employees who are 30 years old and under.

Geography: You do not have to live in the Waseca area, but your internship or job position must be located in Waseca County.

New business challenge seeks to spur economic growth The Waseca Chamber of Commerce and Lead for Minnesota launching a competition for entrepreneurs, in hopes of spurring economic growth.

“The Waseca Area Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with Lead For Minnesota to launch an entrepreneurial business competition with the goal of stimulating economic growth in Waseca.

“The Waseca New Business Challenge is a 10-week training program with a business pitch competition at the end,” the Chamber said in its announcement. The winning business, expected to open in Waseca by March 2022, will receive “an incentive package worth over $30,000” from the Waseca community.”

Each of the team revolves around one of the action pillars outlined in the initial Vision 2030 study. Community members offer their skills to the team to work on projects and get things done! Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the SHOP PINK event!

This event was a huge success for a couple of reasons. First, it highlighted an incredible historic spot in our community and the inspiring people who saved The Pink Schoolhouse.

Second, it encouraged people to shop locally with the offer provided to those who grabbed a pink tote bag. We gave out a little less than 100 bags!

Lastly, it connected our region during a time of difficulty. During dark times, we have always gathered by light and will continue to do so.

Welcome back, Waseca! It felt so good to meet in person again about Vision 2030. Back when this project started in 2017, folks in Waseca were gathering together in large groups to talk about the future of this town. Now, with COVID and more, Wasecans got to gather again for the first time in a while to connect and plan.....

We are so thankful to the people who put their love for their community in public with the lawn signs. We are also excited to share what people said were things they cared about in this community. Over the next few days we will be sharing those words!

It felt so wonderful to gather last night at the Mill and virtually with folks to talk about the future of Vision 2030. We feel reenergized for the future of this effort!

This past Saturday, Vision 2030 along with Lead for Minnesota took around 15 Waseca business leaders and community members on a road trip around southern Minnesota to gather inspiration, learn from industry, and garner excitement around the future of a Waseca Innovation Hub.

We stopped at a downtown redevelopment spot in St. James, Minnesota to learn about the process of saving a building with community support.

Then we headed over to Albert Lea to learn from the Minnesota Riverland Technical College to hear about higher education partnerships.

We ended the day in Rochester at Collider, a coworking space sparking entrepreneurial innovation in their town, and dinner at Forager Brewery to learn from the founder about how to bring people together behind a special project.

We are so thankful to the incredible people who spoke to us and the Wasecans who gave up their Saturday to tag along!

In this time of political tension, we are reminded of how passionate people are about the places they live.
