This is a reminder that if you have neuropathy, this is one of the most dangerous things to you can do. Here in Phoenix, temps can reach upwards of 120 degrees in the summer. I’ve treated 2nd and 3rd degree burns to the feet of people who have done this. Please wear shoes outside during the summer, especially if you have numb feet

A type of nerve damage, known as peripheral neuropathy is commonly seen in feet, especially in those people with diabetes or chronic kidney disease. Many times when people have peripheral neuropathy, they have trouble feeling their feet, or their feet become completely numb. This is especially dangerous. If someone can’t feel pain, then they don’t know to move their foot when something would be possibly painful in a healthy foot. This can lead to burns for example that become chronic wounds, can become infected, and lead to hospitalization or amputation.

Sharing nail tools between people without sterilization increases your risk of bacterial or viral infections of your feet like nail fungus or plantar warts caused by the HPV virus. For tools truly to be safe to be used for one person to the next, tools should be autoclaved (placed in a special pressurized oven to kill everything on contact), or in a cold sterile solution. Rubbing alcohol simply is not good enough.

Besides the obvious risk of coming in contact with others feces or urine, being barefoot in a public bathroom, airplane included is never a good idea. This will definitely also increase your risk of Athelete’s Foot, Nail fungus, bacterial infections, or plantar warts

Daily blood glucose vs Hemoglobin A1C 🩸⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Daily Blood Glucose - Tells you your blood sugar level at that moment in time that you are testing. Tested with a finger prick. ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Hemoglobin A1C - A percentage. Gives you an average of your daily blood glucose. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, usually will be drawn every 3 months.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, both numbers are important to know, and have their importance, just in different ways. ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Consistently high blood sugars can increase your risk of foot wounds (ulcers), nerve damage to your feet which can cause numbness or chronic pain, life threatening infections, or amputation. As a diabetic it is so important to see a Podiatrist regularly as prevention of these scenarios happening.
