La Vuelta ‘23 - My first Grand Tour
Even though the rollercoaster we experienced as team the first 2 weeks, I felt great.
Until I crashed hard against a wall on a downhill in Stage 13. After that the ‘I feel great’ turned more into survive/zombie mode. Let’s say I won every stage after the crash if you reverse the results😜

My priority was to finish the race that I had started. I was more determined than ever to finish my first Grand Tour. And always my own decision to continue this journey.

After the race we decided to do examinations in the hospital as I was still feeling bad. It turned out I fractured a rib. On top of that they saw a lack of lung capacity on the photos which indicated, after some more testing, that I was riding with a lung infection as well.

Is a GT hard? Yes. But I would say fracturing a rib and riding with 1,5 lung in the 3rd week made it not easier. Glad it’s done and in the legs. I found new limits within the body I wasn’t aware of having them.

Now time to heal up and recover well from the fracture and illness, to come back stronger and don’t need to reverse the results to get a W. And thank all of you for the incredible support!🫡❤️
