āDeath and life are in the power of the tongue..ā
-proverbs 18 20
I feel itās so important to place this reminder here. Aside from the Good Lord himself, There is nothing that can influence our course of our lives as much as the thoughts we carrying and the words we speak. Scripture tells us that the power is life and death, literally lies in the power of the tongue.
Let us remember this as we greet our days, letās us intentionally and deliberately shift our perspective from believing we are āsickā and using that kind of language, and let us remember that we are healing. Go deep into the places that need attention and intention and speak over it, pray on to it, letās create and environment that allows for healing so the body can do what it was always meant to do.
.veitch.52 Thank you for helping me complete this space, even when it didnāt make sense to you at first.
For me, closed cabinets and drawers create spaces of chaos and limitationā¦ much like closed doors, and I really aim to have an open and intentional home.
This allows me the space to , , run my , cook my and enjoy meals with my familyā¦ plus when we have company, others can feel at home and comfortable in accessing anything they might need, which is so important to meā¤ļø
On top of completing this space in time for my birthday, Adam also helped me set up Vanās big boy bedroom space, all while on his Christmas holidays. Iām ever grateful for having a husband who faithfully believes in my and who is always willing tackle my wild ideas āŗļø
This is love š
A friend graciously offered me a some of her 125 year old sourdough starter so I could get back on track with making our breads again.
I have one lucky and grateful crew that got to wake up to fresh, stone-baked sourdough bagels this morning š„Æ ā¤ļø
And the levain is in the works for the bread next š¤

Wonderful comfrey. Got a bad rep for a while, because of its potential to cause liver issues when taken internally but itās super power lies in its skin, tissue and bone healing abilities, as a salve, cream or compress!
An incredible healing herb, capable actually healing bones, -this is one green you donāt want to miss having in your herbal medicine cabinet. This salve is my recommendation for arthritis pain or joint pain, it works wonders, especially when combined with our ginger capsules to help combat internal inflammation.
Oh, Essiac š¤
My first introduction to herbal and medicinal teas. This is āthat teaā that almost everyone has heard of. Such a cool history from my very own small town.
A nurse named ReneƩ Caisse, was said to have collaborated with local Ojibwa and was shown this recipe, to use in treating cancer and other ailments in her patients.
There is a very skilled and precise way of creating the decoction, and there are many retail manufacturers who have tried to develop their own version, but the ingredients are specific and are not to be added to or changedā¦ even the utensils used, makes a difference in brewing this tea!
Make sure you check out the history of ReneĆ© Caisse (Essiac is her last name spelled backwards) and if trying the tea, be sure that youāre getting it from someone who knows the importance of brewing it correctly.

An ever-important reminderšæ
I havenāt posted in a couple of days, as Iāve spent some much needed time with the family. Of course, foraging is still a part of my daily life, so thereās been no shortage of wildcrafting.
These pretty piled fungi, are known as violet tooth polyporesā¦ theyāre very often mistaken for Turkey tail, but are different. They do not contain the same medicinal polysaccharides, as the versicolor (Turkey tail)
The easiest way to tell them apart, is the very toothy looking purple hued underside, and the more muted top colours.
Turkey tail has very white underside that makes it quite distinctive because if itās stark contrast to its dark deep multicolour top
šæHerbalism is about so much more than plants as medicine. Itās realizing that the earth offers those plants to us and therefore knowing that the earth wants us to heal!
šæItās being grateful for the small things. Itās that indescribable feeling you get when youāre in your garden, in the forest or when seeing or smelling your very favourite flower.
Itās a soul-deep connection to the universe around us and the herbs are the lines that keep us attached to it.
šæWe are all human, we are all real, Iām far from perfect. I eat crappy food sometimes, I drink too much coffee, I often donāt get enough sleep etcā¦ this is my real, the season of my life, but herbs, the forest, my garden, that has always been my grounding connection to my spiritual self, the part that reminds me to love and take care of me too!
šæSo even if itās some small thing, connect today. I like to add my life mushrooms right to my morning coffee using a tea ball, maybe some day Iāll get to place of being able to ditch the caffeine, but for now, this is what brings happiness to my heart, so Iāll do that!
You can connect and be ārealā too! Itās all about balance. āš¼ ā¤ļø š
I got to spent the weekend celebrating one of my favourite people, during her bacheloretteš„°
I rarely drink, especially not more than one or 2, but the odd time I do like to have a few and celebrate with friendsā¦.. I always pay for it. I get terrible headache from alcohol, headaches that can be ruthless and so persistent!
Iāve tried all the tricks, and nothing really works well, EXCEPT, this -hobblebush and lavender decoction, added to a compress, cooled and applied to my forehead!
I was so grateful for this mixture today š„°
Rose hips š¹
These fascinating seed pots are incredible for skin care and anti-aging. They form on rose bushes, after the roses have finished their bloom season, and are actually the seed pods of the roses.
We love they they look like little baby tomatoes š„°
In addition to being a great skin plant, taken in tea form, rose-hips are packed with antioxidants and have shown great promise in helping to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease, thanks to its leucoanthocyanins and polyphenolic compounds.
At its sweetest after a first frost, we like to catch an early harvest and freeze them for 24 hours, before dehydrating. Some like the whole dried hips but we prefer to remove seeds.
Ladyās Thumb - (which gets its name because of the thumb print shape marking, that appears on its leaves) -the quiet āweedā with the pretty pink flowersā¦ that delivers a load of medicinal benefits!
All parts of this one, are edible/beneficial. Part of the buckwheat family, LT lends help to relive everything from stomach pain to poison ivyā¦ it makes a wonderful bug repellant that is safe for both people and animals. Many farmers apply it to their horses to keep the flies at bay!
My favourite thing about Ladyās thumb (besides it pretty pink flowers and interesting name) is that it grows wild -just about everywhere!
Weāve always foraged with our kids, sometimes the bigger one get a bit annoyed because of frequent stops on walks and drives, but I know theyāre learning as we go -and I think foraging is an extremely valuable life skill we are passing on to them.
On our last mushroom forage, my husband and I found this awesome haulā¦ as soon as we lifted it, Our 5 year old said āoh mom, thatās lots of Turkey tailā!it made us so proud to hear that sheās absorbing what weāre teaching, and she was proud of herself for positively identifying this magical fungus!
Mullein collecting today. The lung herb, healing, relieving, a fantastic tea herb to help alleviate congestion. Leaves and flowers are primarily used. We keep this stocked at all times, all year, to help with pesky colds, congestion and bronchitis
š¼CALENDULAš¼
Beautiful, beneficial calendula. I call this the bath herb. Although itās wonderful added to loose teas to aid with sore throat and cough, itās real magic occurs in healing the skin, muscles and body inflammation -making it perfect to add to an herbal bath.
Usually, I make our herbal baths by boiling down and steeping the herbs for 20 minutes, straining and adding to the tub, but once in a while I like to soak with the herbs directly against my skin, to really extract and absorb their benefits.
If youāre someone who enjoys soaking in a bath to relive muscle aches and tension, may I suggest our epsom, rosemary and calendula soak. Made with our own grown herbs and locally sourced Epsom salts. Can be enjoyed boiled then strained, added to a mesh bag or stocking and placed in the tub, or as a loose leaf soak, added directly to bath water (strain before draining the tub)
