This is us.

Part Chaos, but mostly joy, laughter & love.

As we have some new faces I thought I would share a little bit of the unfiltered us.

1. We have five children, yes five! Everywhere we go we do a count off to ensure we are not missing a tiny human. Graham, Charlie, James, Evelyn and Via are my why.

2. My husband works for the Department of Criminal Investigation which means you shouldn't be alarmed when he asks you 1 million questions the first time he meets you. This is normal! He also helps with UD Wrestling.

3.We own a small real estate investment company. To give you a snapshot of life in real estate - one year our renters turned off the heat in the dead of winter for 1 week. To their defense they were from Cali and didn't realize pipes freeze and burst.

4. We hike almost every weekend and spend every second we can outdoors. We love adventures and traveling to random spots. Next up is Montana(give us some ideas if you have been there) As our family is outgrowing our current vehicles we ordered a transit van....that we have to wait 1 year to get.

5. I wear many hats, but each has a very specific purpose. I will never commit to something that I dont align with. I work for a non profit and run a non profit, so you could say I am not in it for the money, hence running for a volunteer school board seat.

We are not perfect, but we do our best to leave a postive imprint in this world. We teach our children to be independent and to learn from each and every mistake. They are probably the kindest kids you will ever meet. We love our community and are proud to call it home.

I am an open book and will always share my truth. So if you have any questions or concerns, please...always ask!

Vote, Whitney Sanger, Dubuque School Board November 2nd!

'Lord of the Rings' actor talks brain health with NICC audience 20/10/2021

When I say I stand for Brain Health- its not a theory or idea but something that is already happening.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of not only attending the Brain Health Summit but being on a panel and sharing my story.

This summit was powerful, eye opening and just what our community needs. I will continue to fight the fight to remove the stigma and address this growing issue. Thank you NICC Business and Community Solutions and Brain Health Now for creating a event for us all to learn, grow and share!

The NICC Brain Health Summit is happening today, will you be there? https://www.nicc.edu/events/event/20211019-brain-health-summit.php

Last fall this amazing group of women got together to chat about emotional intelligence. For weeks we met, engaged, supported and uplifted each other on our journey.

Today, we are bringing these skills back to the non profit organizations in which we lead and sharing our learned experiences with the world, especially in our schools.

If you at the Brain Health summit today - tune in as we dive into our lessons learned during the Power Minds Panel.

A powerful thing to remember.

One of my biggest priorities, if elected, would be connecting farmers, distributors, and school food leaders to ensure students have access to healthy, local foods inside and outside of the classroom.

Through Project Rooted we have developed tried-and-true resources for bringing local food into our schools and engaging students in making healthy eating choices!

While this is not an easy task - many foodie advocates in our community are dedicated to continuing the dialogue and creating change!

Have you met our School Resource Officers(SRO)?

Meet Brandon Gudenkauf, a father of two, community advocate, and SRO for the Dubuque Community School District.

I have personally had the opportunity to witness the positive impact he has had in our schools and community. Beyond ensuring that the school is a safe, equitable learning environment he acts as a mentor, educator, and friend to our children.

Thank you to all the SRO's in our community for your dedication to the field and for keeping our kiddos safe!

The School Bus Driver Shortage is a Problem We Didn't Have to Have 06/10/2021

If your not familiar with Strong Towns go check them out! They take a unique approach to solving problems by taking a bottom up approach.

This is a big one for me. We live in a neighborhood where biking and walking to school is not an option due to a lack of sidewalks and dangerous streets with high speed traffic. Yet we are too close to take the bus even though it passes right past our house. How does this make sense?

Let's continue to make efforts to create more safe, livable and walkable neighborhoods in our community!

https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2021/9/23/the-school-bus-driver-shortage-is-a-problem-we-didnt-have-to-have

The School Bus Driver Shortage is a Problem We Didn't Have to Have Schools across the U.S. are experiencing a bus driver shortage, but the root cause of this issue has less to do with the COVID pandemic than one might think.

Have you heard about the Teen Resiliency Corps?

The TRC is a group of teens at the MFC in collab with Sustainable Dubuque to help address community needs in regards to resiliency.

Not only are they learning life long skills but get paid for the work they do! How rad is that?

We had the opportunity to work with this
group last year for Project Rooted and yesterday met the new crew that just started this week!

Letโ€™s make more of this happen in our community!

Brain Health Initiative #1: Daily Check In

Let's slow things down and chat feelings.

One way to help students learn more about and accept the validity of feelings is to use Feeling Check-ins at the start of each day or during other moments of the day.

By doing this, we not only show that we care but we have a better understanding of where each student is, allowing the opportunity to adjust based on their current needs.

I don't know about you, but I wish we did this as adults too! So let's start the movement by checking in today.

How are you feeling?

29/09/2021

I would be honored to win your vote on November 2, 2021 for Dubuque School Board.

I have devoted myself to understanding the issues in our schools, meeting with teachers, staff and parents, and setting priorities that will improve the life for all of our children

This is a critical time for our Dubuque. We are facing a global pandemic and an ever changing educational environment. We need to learn to adapt, pivot, and still educate our children to our best ability. We have a choice to make about how we move forward together and what our future looks like. I have been creating a network and cultivating relationships both in our city and beyond to make sure we get the resources we need to thrive. I believe in a vibrant Dubuque school district and despite the challenges ahead of us, I know we are capable of elevating this place we love to the potential we all see.

Our community is rich in diverse backgrounds and exceptional creativity, and it is going to take all of us collaborating to solve the great challenges ahead of us. Now, more than ever, we need to be our best selves and work together.

I am doing this for you. To be your voice, your advocate and leader in the schools because it is our children and their future we are fighting for!

Will you stand with me?

I stand for
> Health for all
> Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
> Brain Health awareness and initiatives
> Increased support for teachers and staff
> Financial solvency
> Future-focused leadership
> Experiential education

Here for you,
Whitney Sanger

I believe teachers + staff should be celebrated each and every day for all their accomplishments inside and outside of the classroom.

Mrs Summer is definately one of those teachers that goes above and beyond. Not only is she the most amazing school counselor but she is a rockstar volunteer, foster parent and positive voice for this community.

Eisenhower School and our kids are beyond lucky to have her in the district! Thank you Molly Summer for all that you do!

What teacher has made a difference in your life?
