Today June 5th is National Cancer Survivors day. Let us celebrate life together 🙏🕊❤
Good morning
In the recent transfer of Health personnel at Matero Level One Hospital by the Minister of Health, one of the key pillars for fighting breast cancer in the country was unfortunately transferred. Yet to establish to where.
We all remember Dr. Songiso who spoke on Teal Sisters on Breast Cancer last year. He runs a Breast Cancer Clinic at Matero Hospital. One of its kind in Zambia with over 300 breast patients. This clinic help to make early diagnosis thereby improving treatment outcome for patients.
The unique thing is Dr. Songiso is a general surgeon who did breast cancer fellowship in South Africa. He therefore also operates on breast cancer patients right there at Matero Level One Hospital.
We are still waiting to hear where he'll be take. Our worry is that all the patients he's been attending to may delay their treatment as this move causes disruptions and those waiting to see him will be delayed further. We hope there was a plan to continue operations at the clinic as this move was done and pray its the right move not just political.
Give us your thoughts and or experience if you've been there in the last couple of weeks. We will keep you updated. God bless
Internationally recognized as Cancer Survivor Month, June is an opportunity for the many millions of cancer survivors across the world to celebrate their milestones and recognize those who have supported them along the way! We want to celebrate you and your journey. Whether you're still on treatment, we still want to celebrate you. So kindly get in touch with via my inbox, share your story and a beautiful picture. Stay blessed!
How is government going to manage 2 new cancer hospitals if its failing to manage this one in Lusaka? Where are they going to find the specialized staff when staff are leaving CDH? Will they afford to buy radiation machines and other specialized machinery when they're failing to replace the ones at CDH?
MR KAYUMBA MPWAMPU WROTE:
Hi, my name is Kayumba Mpwampu. I am the father to Nkisu, the baby in the picture. My wife is Phoebe Kamanga Mpwampu.
I lost my vision by the time I was 18 months old due to retinoblastoma. Life as a blind person came with its own challenges. Some of the things that the average person would take for granted, I was unable to do growing up. There were certain games I couldn’t play for instance, certain things I had to ask for help to and sometimes, the help could not come as and when I needed it. I want to spare my son from some of these experiences. Though I had, and still have a very supportive network of friends and family, Sight gives a level of independence and I want this for my son. It can happen, if we can save His right eye.
His left eye was removed due to retinoblastoma at five weeks. His right eye, the doctors said, could be salvaged. Chemo therapy was done along with the laser for 6 cycles. The tumors cleared. But the most recent review indicates that the tumors are back, and intravenous chemo cannot help much. My son is 1 year old. I don’t want him to lose this eye too. My wife and I want to take Him to India, where intra arterial chemotherapy can be administered. But We do not have the resources to do this on our own. But with your help, we can save my son’s eye. We can keep him from missing out on some of life’s precious moments that can only be appreciated through vision. We can help him keep the independence that vision affords.
Help us save Nkisu’s eye. by giving contributions of any amount toward his treatment costs. Your help will be greatly appreciated
up the night for Nkisu

What are YOUR thoughts on the current Cancer Care services in the Country?
Let's tell the President to prioritise treatment of Cancer!
We have a crisis! Currently almost 3,000 Cancer patients are not receiving treatment due to erratic supply of life saving cancer drugs, and worse still, out of the 3 radiotherapy machines in the country 1 is completely broken down whilst the 2 are not operating optimally.
This is unacceptable!
Health isn’t a privilege for a few but a right for all Zambians.
Add your voice to urge the President to direct Ministry of Health and Finance to purchase new machines and save lives!
