After 12 years of creative collaboration, co-owners Gallagher and David were inspired to start Boxco Studio. They had many clients searching for a minimalist style of plywood cabinetry that emulated midcentury and European designs, but couldn't find a product locally on the East Coast that was up to their standards. G +D saw an opportunity to bring this style of cabinetry to the Northeast; one with an organic, modern aesthetic that would integrate easily into the traditional homes of New England and appeal to their clients looking for a top quality, customizable product.⁠

This project made us fall in love with laminates all over again. Discreet ledge pulls kept the faces super clean on these laminated Baltic birch cabinets and the exposed ply edges added a subtle layer of warmth. We love the client's choice of color pops, plumbing fixtures and plethora of happy plants.⁠

Most of our cabinet fronts, both clear and colorful, are made with rotary cut maple veneer plywood. Rotary cut veneers are made by rotating a log while shaving a full-length continuous sheet off the outside. We like rotary cut⁠ material because it results in an unbroken grain pattern across your door and drawer fronts. ⁠
⁠
Using a rotary cut material also means that you can expect to see some character marks in the veneer, that tell the story of each tree’s unique history over the decades. We consider these irregularities and character marks to be indicators of the authenticity of this natural⁠ material, and part of its appeal. ✨️⁠

🩷🧡A fan favorite: This bubblegum and orange larder holds all the food and snacks you can imagine!⁠ Customizable down to every detail and a great way to add a pop of color (or two or three) to your kitchen!⁠

Our finishes are non-toxic, super durable, easily cleaned and safe for the environment. We use wood waxes made from linseed, thistle, soy and sunflower oils for our cabinet fronts. The natural oils pe*****te deep into the wood material, maximizing finish durability and color coverage. The grain of the plywood remains visible beneath the color and soft matte sheen. ✨️⁠

Finishing the backs of open shelves with a fun hue is a great way to add color without fully committing! This client chose all maple veneer fronts with a clear wood wax finish and small pops of our custom wood wax color, Pomodoro.⁠

This kitchen's door fronts, drawer fronts and open shelving are made of laminate laid up on Baltic Birch plywood, a favorite of ours alongside Maple Europly.⁠ Our cabinet boxes are built from high-quality sustainable maple-faced plywood materials that have exceptional surface quality and great stability. The reinforced cores, made from globulus eucalyptus and poplar veneer plywood, create a beautiful, uniform detail for all the edges of our cabinet boxes. ⁠

We formulated a custom wood wax finish to match Dutch Orange for this project in Northampton, MA. Interior designer and owner Raisa Sandstrom looooves color, (specifically orange!) which was a major plus of working with her. 😍 (Aside from her dreamy design style.)⁠ Behind the brass handles hides a panel-ready fridge and freezer, surrounded by tons and tons of pantry storage. 👀⁠

All of our wood wax finishes are custom-mixed at our shop in Greenfield, MA using primary hues. Osmo wood waxes are derived from linseed, thistle, soy and sunflower oils, as opposed to petroleum which is found in many typical cabinetry paint products. The natural oils pe*****te deep into the wood material, maximizing finish durability and color coverage. The grain of the plywood (and mdf!) remains visible beneath the color and soft matte sheen. Our cabinetry is built with premium void-free veneer-core plywood, high quality Blum® hardware and hardwood pull-outs and inserts. All of our wood products are formaldehyde-free and sourced from sustainably managed forests. Our laminates are carefully selected for durability and cleanability. It's our top priority is to ensure our kitchens perform as well as they look. 🌳💪⁠

We are feeling super lucky to welcome Marc to the Boxco Team as a Cabinetmaker and CNC operator! Marc has been working for himself for the past couple of years combining his love of music and woodworking in order to do cool projects like building out recording studios and making custom amplifiers. It is great to have his skills and experience in the shop with us as we enter this new year!
