Holy Spirit-inspired Reflections on the Word of God || Sharing God above all else đ¤
Assumptions Hurt Us and Others
Often times when a task has not been done, we think of who has done it, and truth be told, jump to conclusions as to why it wasnât done - âoh theyâre lazy, oh theyâre forgetful, oh they like passing this to someone elseâ. The Conclusion is often based on previous experience. We do it to other people, but we absolutely are distraught when done to us.
When someone has wronged us, we want them to have the maximum penalty.
But when have wronged anyone, we want absolute forgiveness.
We assume because it was either done to us, OR, we have done it to someone else. Because experience has taught us âbetterâ. Let me tell you something else - God already knows of all about your sin, your shame and your past even before you were born - and He created you anyway.
When we assume, we forget the important part of any relationship - communication. When we assume, we either think the best, but often, the worse of anyone. And when that assumption is made, it destroys not only the other person - it destroys you from the inside, and eventually decays that relationship. And this is where it all starts - the detriment of oneâs relationship with God. Disappointments happen because of unrelayed expectations, which are again, assumptions made.
You assume God âshould haveâ promoted you in that job interview.
You assume God âshould haveâ given you that dream.
You assume God âshould haveâ provided you what you asked for.
You assume God âshould haveâ prevented that negative situation.
We can assume so many things of God, forgetting the most important aspect again of our relationship with Him - intimate fellowship. When you pray to God, did you take the time to ASK Him for His will? And if you did ask, did you wait for His answer? Because often times in our lives, we force the situation to unfold because âI have been good, therefore God should bless meâ âI have prayed for this for so long, so this should be itâ
Assumptions are dangerous. It eats you up from the inside because you make judgements without consulting (speaking, communicating) the person involved. And often times, itâs God we do not involve at all. That doesnât mean of course that God isnât in control, HE IS. If you are expecting your friend give you the gift you want on your birthday, and get something else, do you get mad at your friend by saying âoh you should have knownâ ?
âYou ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.â James⏠â4âŹ:â3⏠âESVâŹâŹ
And YET, we still blame God because we assume - and even dare quote scripture to Him! âDidnât you say God that if I ask according to Your Sonâs Name You will answer?â But if we took the time to listen to Godâs answer, not assume, we would known that even the no is an answer as well to your prayer. You may not like it, but it still is definitely an answer. When you love someone, you take the time to know them. God has written everything on the Bible, He has given us His Holy Spirit the moment we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour. He has provided, hence knowing God more intimately is a choice.
We then should always allow God to search our hearts and let Him move. We should let Him have full authority over our thoughts, our emotions, so that He can remove anything that is not of Him.
Are you willing to listen? Or have you made the assumption that you are not getting the explanation you want? It may not be what you want to hear, but definitely what you need.
God has been waiting on us. Even when we made assumptions, He didnât of us, even when He can. Instead, He allowed us to make choices - including the choice of choosing to be with Him or not.
So when you are tempted to make that next assumption about anything or anyone, pray and rebuke. God sees, God hears and God knows.
The Love of God is beyond our Understanding..
God doesnât need anything from us- yet He desires us, longs for us.
When God commands us to do something, we have this immediate notion of âGod âneedsâ me to do thisâ. But my friend, if we truly believe God is supreme and almighty, He can do anything He wishes without us. He commands us, just as He did Abraham, just as He did Moses, for He desires a relationship with us. He tells us what to do to show to us how much we indeed do trust Him, not to prove anything to Him- for if we truly believe He is all-knowing, then He already knows our answer, but it is us who needs reminding.
A relationship entails 2-way communication one that listens and talks with each other. God can easily free the Israelites by Himself, He is more than capable. God can easily strike down Goliath without David, He is more than able. But why does God use people? Not because He needs to, but because He desires to. He desires to strengthen His relationship with them, and of those around them.
God requires our obedience but loves us in spite of our insubordination. This is not an excuse, but a factual reminder that if God loved us before our relationship with Him, He will love us with the failings as well. God can easily stop us from making any mistake or failure, still He allows us to make our own choices and still meet Him in places of hurt and desolate places.
God doesnât need anything from us. And yet, He loves you, just as you are.
God doesnât need anything from us. Nevertheless, He pursues us.
God doesnât need anything from us. Still, He sent His only begotten Son for you and I.

When we pray for patience, God answers them through difficult situations.. When we pray for resilience, He answers them through stubborn people.. Resurrection Sunday! Thank You Jesus!
âď¸âWhen the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they could go and anoint him. Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they went to the tomb at sunrise.â
ââMark⏠â16âŹ:â1âŹ-â2⏠âCSBâŹâŹ
How many of us would indeed arise early and have the intention of meeting God? What was considered at that day âworkâ and something that would cause them to be unclean (touching a dead body) would also have not allowed them to celebrate the passoverâ but they have their Savior. What was the meaning of ANY celebration without the real reason for it?
âď¸âThey were saying to one another, âWho will roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb for us?â Looking up, they noticed that the stone â which was very large â had been rolled away.â Mark⏠â16âŹ:â3âŹ-â4⏠âCSBâŹâŹ
Mary Magdalene knew that the tomb was sealed and that there would be guards (Matthee 28:61; 65-66). So to still come inspite of this knowledge shows where she was in her faith. They were also wondering about who would âroll away the stoneâ for them- the stone was large to ensure closure, to prevent animals and even grave robbers. Unbeknownst to the pharisees and roman soldiers, they were being used by God for what was already taking place.
Sometimes, we have a problem already resolved by God and all we need to do is show up. Though the women wondered who was going to roll it for them, they didnât dally in going first to where Jesus was. We often find ourselves looking for solutions to our problems forgetting who us the real Way Maker. The stone was rolled away.
âď¸ âWhen they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side; they were alarmed. âDonât be alarmed,â he told them. âYou are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they put him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, âHe is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there just as he told you.âââ Mark⏠â16âŹ:â5âŹ-â7⏠âCSBâŹâŹ
The tomb was opened to show them something was missing. Sometimes it can be contradictory- why would something be missing worth celebrating? Because Jesus fulfilled His promise of rising again (Mark 9:30â32 and also in Matthew 17:22â23)! Jesus did what He said what He was going to do! He is alive! Jesusâs body being missing proves that is our Messiah, our Savior!
Itâs not enough to simply witness- we must tell others as well just as the angel has mentioned.
Isnât it ironic that the Pharisees remembered what Jesus said - âand said, âSir, we remember that while this deceiver was still alive he said, âAfter three days I will rise again.ââ
ââMatthew⏠â27âŹ:â63⏠âCSBâŹâŹ but the disciples werenât there looking forward to Jesus fulfilling His promise. Also what Jesus said, they would be scattered. And so we praise God for using these women as the first testimony-givers. Donât be easily discouraged when things are not what you expect- Godâs word never fall empty! (1Samuel 3:19)
Mary Magdalene saw everything- from death, to burial. She knew that Jesusâs body was buried, but when the news came of His resurrection, she believes for week see what happened next-
âď¸ âThey went out and ran from the tomb, because trembling and astonishment overwhelmed them. And they said nothing to anyone, since they were afraid. [Some of the earliest mss conclude with 16:8.] Early on the first day of the week, after he had risen, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. She went and reported to those who had been with him, as they were mourning and weeping. Yet, when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe it. After this, he appeared in a different form to two of them walking on their way into the country. And they went and reported it to the rest, who did not believe them either.â
ââMark⏠â16âŹ:â8âŹ-â13⏠âCSBâŹâŹ
Your testimony is meant to be shared- your testimony is meant to be used to deliver the good news of our Lord! And as we read, though they did not, initially, believe- we still must share of Godâs goodness for itâs up to the Holy Spirit to convict. If Mary Magdalene did not listen, their mourning and weeping would carry on. For although they did not believe, yet, they would eventually know it was true.
My brothers and sisters, let us celebrate His resurrection not just today. But every breathing moment of our lives.
Jesus said He would be betrayed, handed over, crucified, would die and would resurrect on the third day.
He did everything He said He would do.
He also said âJesus told him, âI am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.â
ââJohn⏠â14âŹ:â6⏠âCSBâŹâŹ
So then it is true- Salvation is through Jesus alone-
Not through âpre-madeâ prayers,
Not through rituals,
Not through empty promises,
Jesus is Risen.
Jesus is in you- if and you accept Him.
Reflection:
âđźAre you unsure? Come to God anyway! He has the answer. You wonât ever find out if you wonât ask. He has written them in the Bible.
âđźDisappointed? Surrender them to God. The disciples werenât the first witnesses of His resurrection- but they were still called by God. Your plans crumbling is God rebuilding. Let Him move and everything else will follow!
âđźUnsure of what people may say? Share God always- many did not believe in Mary Magdalene, she shared the good news still. Your security is in Heaven, not here on earth.
âđźGod keeps His promises. Revisit the times God has fulfilled His promises to you. If He did it then, He can do it again! Just surrender and trust Him ALWAYS.
âAnd Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many. Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, âTruly this was the Son of God!ââ Matthew⏠â27âŹ:â50âŹ-â54⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
As we Journey through Matthew 27 today, letâs bring to Light the Truth of Christ:
đđź âAnd behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; ...â Matthew⏠â27âŹ:â51⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
The veil once signified separation between the Holy place and the most Holy of holies(Ex.26:33; read 31-37) which meant death when violated (read Numbers 18:7): but this was now open through Jesus - now we can approach the Father through Jesus âJesus *said to him, âI am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.â John⏠â14âŹ:â6⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
đđź â..and the earth shook and the rocks were split.â Matthew⏠â27âŹ:â51⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
This happened in Mt. Sinai as well when God visited the Israelites (Ex. 19:18; read 18-25) to present the law, and hence this signified that the law was fulfilled through Jesus
đđź âThe tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.â Matthew⏠â27âŹ:â52âŹ-â53⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
When something is shaken, something needs to be opened. At that time, it was the tombs of the saints who have been faithfully waiting for Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:20-28). And when Jesus comes again, we will be with Him (1Thessalonians 4:13-18).
đđź âNow the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, âTruly this was the Son of God!âMatthew⏠â27âŹ:â54⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
Donât wait to see the signs before believing in Christ. It has all been written in the Bible. The centurion partook in the death of Christ because everyone else around him said Jesus wasnât the Messiah. But we shouldnât be listening to the world, we should be reading the Word. For the Word was made flesh, and dwelt amongst us!
Reflection:
âđźWhat does God need to break and tear within you for Him to have complete access within you? For Him to communicate with you? For Him to dwell in you?
âđźWill you allow God to transform you? When you are shaken, you are being prepared. If your foundation in Christ is strong, then you will stand firm through Him. Just because you are shaken doesnât always mean you must be broken- God may be showing you how firm your foundation is- or is not.
âđźDo you truly accept Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? Because of what you have believed in your heart- not what the world has shown in your eyes or whispered in your ears or felt in your skin?
âđź âIf you love Me, you will keep My commandmentsâ John⏠â14âŹ:â15⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
Loving Christ is not a once a year commitment during âHoly Weekâ, itâs not a once a week obligation every Sunday. Itâs a lifelong relational journey.
Letâs continue to journey together in Christ, for Christ, through Christ.
âAnd behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.â
ââMatthew⏠â28âŹ:â2⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
âThey were saying to one another, âWho will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?â Looking up, they *saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large. Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed.â
ââMark⏠â16âŹ:â3âŹ-â5⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
âAnd they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,â
ââLuke⏠â24âŹ:â2⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
âNow on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene *came early to the tomb, while it *was still dark, and *saw the stone already taken away from the tomb.â
ââJohn⏠â20âŹ:â1⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
4 accounts, 1 message - Jesus has risen..
And as I reflected on this, what a beautiful message from Godâ
The stone was rolled away to show what was inside, that it
was empty.
To the dead, it simply means a missing body, that it was stolen.
To a believer we know Jesus has risen.
When God allows us to see emptiness- we can look at it in 2 ways- that something was taken away and can never be replaced, OR, that something was taken and now He can fill it up with hope, or
Emptiness usually means in this world as hopelessness, but that empty tomb now teaches us Hope.
When we feel empty, remember that God can now fill you up with His intentions and purpose for you.
Remember, the tomb rolled away was not to set Jesus free, it was to show us what was inside, and hence, set us free.
Thank You Jesus!
Not all Flowers were made to bear fruit
Flowers bring beauty. But not every flower, no matter beautiful, is appreciated. Some have allergies to flowers. But some are allergic to the pollen, not the flower. Some flowers when picked, last for a week then wither. Some are given âartificial foodâ to last longer than a week. But no matter how beautifully cared for, they will wither and eventually die. Some flowers, however, bloom, die, but form fruit.
All fruits come from flowers, but not all flowers bear fruit.
In our walk with God, it is only natural that we are transformed in His image and likeness, especially when we obey Him in everything. When Moses met with God in Ex. 34:35 his face shone that he needed to wear a veil. Godâs love convicts, and the more we dwell with God, the more we reflect who He is in our lives.
God lets us bloom in Him. Then He places us to where the bloom He has given us can be appreciated, for people to see His glory in us. To share His wonder. And if we do stay in God, He will allow us to bear fruit as well.
In gardening, a branch is cut off to give way to another that is bearing fruitâ because a branch that bears no fruit is a waste of energy to plant. What a contrast it is to what Jesus said in John 15:2 âEvery branch in me that does not produce fruit he removes, and he prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit.â
We all have our purpose. But just because a flower is destined to bear fruit, doesnât mean it does. A tomato flower that isnât pollinated will not turn into fruit. It will wither in that branch, and fall off.
We are all meant to bear fruit. And so we go back again with what Jesus said â âA good tree canât produce bad fruit; neither can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that doesnât produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So youâll recognize them by their fruit.â Matthew⏠â7âŹ:â18âŹ-â20⏠âCSBâŹâŹ
Flowers are beautiful to look at. But we are not meant to simply be admired, the glory must go back to God. We are meant to be fruits of His will, a purpose shared to those who are hungry of Him, and be the seeds shared to others. Fruits are not only hunger-satiating, they contain seeds that will also become plants and so on.
And though flowers become fruits- not all fruits are sweet. Some become rotten, and distasteful and are meant to be thrown.
Sometimes weâre either not to share what we know of God which truly shows the rotten aspects of our hearts, or we keep on waiting for the âright peopleâ to share such fruits to. No matter how sweet a fruit can be, if itâs not eaten, itâs wasted. Itâs not up to us whom we share the the sweetness, it is up to God whom He directs us to!
You are not meant to simply be an ornamental christian. God wants us to be fertilized in His word, to bloom, to bear fruit, and to be shared to others. Will we allow Him to grow in Him, with Him and through Him, be used to plant more seeds?
Numbers 8 Set Apart ; Separate
In our walk, we often find that the world dictates for us to find where we belong, maybe even to find whom we belong, to also find our purpose. Reading Exodus, Leviticus, and as far as I am in Numbers, the constant theme I am finding is separation; set apart.
God has been showing and revealing His message from the beginning- we are of Him, therefore, we must be of Him! We must not confirm to this world, for we have been set for God. Our âsense/desire to belongâ is not wrong for God does want us to belong- belong to Him, not of this world.
The world borrows from what God has always taught- we are uniquely made in His image and likeness yet also created equally for His glory. Belongingness is not about having the same traits nor the same attributes, it is about having one passionate heart aligned with His who longs to do Godâs will and, to worship Him day and night.
Itâs a beautiful relationship with God once established that we are His:
We can trust Him in everything (Proverbs 3:5-6, Psalm 91:2)
We know from past experience that He never fails and so we know our future is secured (Joshua 21:45, Jeremiah 29:11)
We know He is true to His word, His Word never falls empty in the ground (Psalm 33:4-5, 1Samuel 3:19)
He provides our every need- no negotiations needed, no calculations to be performed (Philippians 4:19)
He knows our heart yet allows us to come to Him as we are (1Samuel 16:7, Matthew 11:27-30)
The loneliness we feel when we are in crowds, groups or clubs which are not of Him is not an accident- because we were never meant totally be grouped by our wants, but separated, set apart for His glory, prepared for His Kingdom. Rebuke the loneliness in Jesusâs Name and allow God to separate you for His Kingdom. Allow God to move, and prepare You for His purposeđđť
Devotion for this week
Joshua 23 : 14 - 16
14 âAnd now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things[a] that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed. 15 But just as all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you have been fulfilled for you, so the Lord will bring upon you all the evil things, until he has destroyed you from off this good land that the Lord your God has given you, 16 if you transgress the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them. Then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land that he has given to you.â
Devotion for the Week
What is your attitude when your prayer is answered? Joshua reminded the Israelites of what God has done for them. We look back and see the blessings that God has showered us with.
Letâs continue to praise and worship God!
Joshua 23 : 7-13
"7 that you may not mix with these nations remaining among you or make mention of the names of their gods or swear by them or serve them or bow down to them, 8 but you shall cling to the Lord your God just as you have done to this day. 9 For the Lord has driven out before you great and strong nations. And as for you, no man has been able to stand before you to this day. 10 One man of you puts to flight a thousand, since it is the Lord your God who fights for you, just as he promised you. 11 Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God. 12 For if you turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations remaining among you and make marriages with them, so that you associate with them and they with you, 13 know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations before you, but they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good ground that the Lord your God has given you."

Joshua 23 : 1 - 6 ESV
1 A long time afterward, when the Lord had given rest to Israel from all their surrounding enemies, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years, 2 Joshua summoned all Israel, its elders and heads, its judges and officers, and said to them, âI am now old and well advanced in years. 3 And you have seen all that the Lord your God has done to all these nations for your sake, for it is the Lord your God who has fought for you.4 Behold, I have allotted to you as an inheritance for your tribes those nations that remain, along with all the nations that I have already cut off, from the Jordan to the Great Sea in the west.5 The Lord your God will push them back before you and drive them out of your sight. And you shall possess their land, just as the Lord your God promised you. 6 Therefore, be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left,

âThe people whom I formed for Myself Will declare My praise.â
ââIsaiah⏠â43âŹ:â21⏠âNASB1995âŹâŹ
God reveals Himself to us.
But sometimes we limit who He is according to our character interpretation of Him.
When something goes wrong, we say He is the God who doesnât hear our prayers.
When we suffer, we say He is the God who only punishes.
When we experience loss, we say He is the God of injustice.
and we praise God for being the God who He says He is- not the God whom we interpret or make Him out to be.
He is the God comforts when we experience loss, and the same God who directs even when we don't follow Him.
He is the God who formed you and I before we were in our mother's womb- who has given us a hope and a future.
He is the God who remains faithful, even when we are not.
God is the same regardless of our circumstance- and thus should be our faith in Him.
Whatâs Your Excuse This Time?
âAnd when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.â ââMatthew⏠â14âŹ:â23⏠âNKJVâŹâŹ
Quietness is a blessing so easily overlooked. Some find the absence of noise as unnatural. Some find temporary peace in silence. But it is in the stillness that we have the opportunity to know more of God by talking to Him. There are 24 hours in a day, surely 5minutes or even a minute is not hard to do for our Lord who does everything for us? God will never make us too busy that we wonât have time to talk to Him (Dr. Charles Stanley). Whatâs your excuse to not stop and commune with Him? Jesus, who is the Son of God, valued His alone time with the Father. He is truly the best example for prioritizing intimacy over enmity. This personal time with God is the best opportunity to read on His word, meditate on it with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and just communicate with Him. God is faithful to reveal Himself to those who are willing to know Him more.
And there was a time when Jesus was alone, fasting in the wilderness, that the devil tempted Him (Mt. 4:1-11)
3 times Jesus was tempted.
3 times did the Satan use scripture to tempt Jesus.
3 times did Jesus respond to Satan with right understanding of Scripture. Discernment is not knowing between right and wrong, it is knowing right and almost right (Dr. Charles Stanley).
The devil knows how to exploit your physical limitations, your emotional vulnerability. Satan knows Scripture himself and he knows it so well he knows how to twist it to fit his agenda â whatâs our excuse not to immerse ourselves in Godâs intimacy in knowing His truth? Jesus responded every single time with âIt is writtenâ. Jesus could have said âmy Father told meâ but He again said âIt is writtenâ. We should be so immersed in His truth that when the someone twists the word of God to us we immediately seek His presence, pray and ask for His discernment on the matter. We should be so aligned with His Word that when we are being tempted and tested His truth is enough to sustain us and get us through.
Do not wait for the opportunity to know God, for the devil does not stop exploiting every time you are not seeking Him.
There is only one thing God cannot do - He cannot do anything in your life without your permission.
If you havenât repented of your sins, the devil continues to have a foothold in your life.
If you havenât accepted Jesus as Your personal Lord and Savior, intimacy with God is hard for Jesus said that no one comes to the Father except through Him.
If you donât believe in God or the devil, it will not stop God from being powerful, but it give the devil every opportunity to wreak havoc in your life and those around you.
Will you make the time to repent, accept and believe in God today?
âAnd then he told them, âGo into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it wonât hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.â When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at Godâs right hand. And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs.â
ââMark⏠â16âŹ:â15âŹ-â20⏠âNLTâŹâŹ
âYou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.â Deuteronomy⏠â6âŹ:â5⏠âESVâŹâŹ
Seeking God is trusting Him obediently- that we do not need to know, we simply need to accept that He is the way, the truth and the life. We read His words not with your own eyes but with our heart, and understand not with our knowledge but with His Spirit đđź
