*Thank you to author for my copy*..
Description:
Sam Daly is leading a life of quiet isolation following the death of her husband, Mike. She is content to merely put in her eight hours at work each day before heading home to lose herself in a book, only to restart that cycle the following morning. But Sam's self-imposed cocoon is threatened after her eccentric father-in-law Harold stumbles back into her world to announce that he is getting remarried to the mysterious Marcie Porter, who is burdened by her own complex family history.
The last thing Sam wants is to get involved with Harold's new endeavor. But after getting wind that Marcie's four children intend to sabotage the wedding, Sam is reluctantly drawn into a new family drama and all that comes with it, whether it be the development of unexpected alliances or butting heads with ruthless enemies. While navigating these landmines, Sam finds herself struggling to come to terms with the painful past she had been holding away at arm's length for so long.
Through these trials and tribulations, Sam is also forced to confront the one question that she had sought to avoid since her husband's passing—whether she is done with the notion of "family" after all.

Review:
I really enjoyed Daniel's debut novel Questions of Perspective and I was thrilled when he asked me to review this novel. The writing style immediately pulled me in again and I was intrigued by the interesting family dynamics. I can't say that I particularly liked the 4 half brothers and sister, but I think that was part of what made Sam's growth so beautiful to see. She suffered loss and had to deal with this dysfunctional group of people and still managed to be the one to experience life lessons and learn from them. I found myself thinking about my own losses and what I learned from them and that's what I think Daniel does best. He encourages self-reflection and personal growth through storytelling, and that's my favorite way to learn. ..
I was very happy to read this review this morning from Indies Today. Just twenty more days until pub day!

When a drunk driver struck the car, it not only took the life of Sam’s husband but also of her mother-in-law, leaving both Sam and her father-in-law completely bereft. Sam hasn’t yet fo...

It’s been a while since I posted here, but just wanted to let you all know that my second novel, entitled Hyphenated Relations, will be published May 4, 2023. It’s a bit of a family dramedy.… and that’s all I will say for now!
Just a quick note to say that I have two guest posts that went up in the past week. The first, at theocbookgirl.com, discusses the struggles of marketing a book as an (introverted) indie author. You can read it here: https://theocbookgirl.com/an-authors-perspective-guest-post-by-daniel-maunz-tlcbooktours-danielmaunz-questionsofperspective/
The second guest post is at bookscookslooks.com and addresses pets as characters in fiction and delves into the inclusion of Peaches the cat in Questions of Perspective. And you can find THAT post here: https://bookscookslooks.com/questions-of-perspective-by-daniel-maunz-book-spotlight-excerpt/

Questions of Perspective is embarking on a virtual blog tour at the end of the month that is continuing through October. I am SO excited by the stops on the tour - these are extremely creative individuals who love to discuss books (and, in some instances, food and/or cats) in the most interesting ways. I highly recommend you check out these bookstagrammers/bloggers now just because they are so good - and hopefully also pop in when they are up on the tour in a few weeks.

Synopsis
No one knew it at the time, but April 19, 2011, was the most important day in the history of the world.
After his only friend and colleague, John Manta, disappears without a word, Dave Randall further entrenches himself in the humdrum life of an unenthusiastic lawyer. But once he begins to understand what happened, he embarks on a journey to uncover the deeper meanings and implications of John's fate.
Accompanied by Peaches the cat, Dave uproots his life and reinvents himself in the midst of his search. Along the way, he is haunted by his piecemeal understanding of John's fate and what it means for his existence. Little does Dave know, his journey of self-discovery will have ramifications that extend far beyond the borders of his own little life.
Review by Fany Van Hemelen
What a beautiful debut
A book can be a treasure to discover. Well, with this debut I was blown away. It is an incredible way of sensitive, thought provoking and humorous writing. I loved the themes in it and yes it is catalogued as a paranormal book but it is so much more.
Dave is a lawyer and when he starts at a new job he develops a friendship with John, the special guy with Asperger. It is a relationship so genuine and wonderful with highs and flaws but suddenly everything changes. John disappears and one year later Dave met him again. From that moment his life is in turmoil. By the important stuff he learns from John he quits his job and went hiking with Peaches, the cat of John.
This is the beginning of a book so different from others. At his trip Dave asks himself questions about the meaning of life. I really recognize this because since my dad recent died I do this too. Questions of perspective is a wonderful debut with spiritual questions about philosophy, religion, our free will and the balance of life and work.
It is a mysterious story because what happens to John but it is also a thought provoking story because there always is the thought of what when someone can influence stuff. Is that good or do we have to follow our destiny and just let go? Another tricky question that pops up by this novel how will the person feel himself when he can't fix problems.
If you like an original story just read this one and you will find an amazing book that has a mix of many wonderful themes.
I will definitely look forward to a next book of this surprising new author.

The process of trying to get the word out about this novel has led me to develop a much greater appreciation for the art of writing a review. A well-written review doesn’t just sum up the plot and end with a number rating; it takes a deep dive into the story’s themes and offers a fresh perspective that may cause you to read the book in a new light. This review from Christopher Adam is worth a read, in my opinion, because it is so eloquent and so much thought was obviously put into it:

Very excited that Questions of Perspective made IndieReaders’ list of top reviewed books for February. Indie publishers have some pretty cool and unique stuff out there, so it’s a list worth checking out if you need a book or two to hold you over until May 14
Best Reviewed Books of the Month – IndieReader IR Verdict: Spirited and saucy, TWO SCANDALS ARE BETTER THAN ONE treads the historical romance road lightly, thanks to some captivating intrigue and an engaging leading lady who handles a pistol better than her dashing paramour.
Here’s a little blurb in the Post and Courier, which is the local paper for Charleston, SC. I’ve been very surprised and pleased by how much the local papers down here support local authors. I’m only mildly disappointed that the paper chose not to treat this as front page material, but I guess in their minds, the whole “SC Democratic Primary Results” thing was a slightly bigger story. Go figure!
Here’s a cool little write up on Questions of Perspective in my local paper, The Island Eye News.
https://islandeyenews.com/sort-of-autobiographical/
Sort Of Autobiographical – The Island Eye News Dave Randall is a cynical attorney, his world tinted by skepticism and his mundane life mired in a constant state of mental and physical exhaustion brought on by his long and tedious workdays. Randall is not a real person; instead, he’s the product of the fertile mind of Daniel Maunz, a Sullivan.....
And here’s another blogger review of Questions of Perspective. Well, two reviews (one with spoilers, one without). “Amanja Reads Too Much” is a really fun blog that tackles both books and comics, and is worth checking out in any context.
But particularly for the two reviews at the very top today. 🙂

First, Oh Just Books gave it a 5/5, and you can check out that review here: https://ohjustbooks.blogspot.com/2020/01/review-questions-of-perspective-by-daniel-maunz.html?m=1
Indie Readers also just issued its review, giving Questions of Perspective a 4.8/5. That review is mildly spoilery, so tread carefully! https://indiereader.com/book_review/questions-of-perspective/
