Ok, I'm going to stop partying now and finish up my present for you guys!

I’ve seen many people on Facebook harbor a lot of anger towards the polemic removal of the Reiterdenkmal statue, and yet with so much emotion, it’s been difficult (for them) to determine/explain exactly why they are so rattled. Many said that they are simply upset by the cowardly and disrespectful manner in which the 100 year-old statue was removed, on Christmas eve, in secret, like a slap in the face of not only Namibian (sic German) history but also an entire religion. However I don’t think that is the complete explanation of this fury. I think what is most troublesome is the sudden acceleration of anti-German propaganda and an almost radical rhetoric by SWAPO. Removal/destruction of controversial statues (plus sudden changes of town names) are not uncommon, like the Lenin statue in Ukraine recently, but it only sensibly happens in conjunction with either drastic policy or regime change. So it makes me wonder, is our Government planning a social change, perhaps, as many who were often dubbed “embellished” feared, a Mugabe type regime or am I to believe that SWAPO is so irresponsible and absurd to use a 100 year old, completely irrelevant compared to the countless struggles we face today piece of bronze that just the day before served as a reminder of man’s greed and of how much as a country we have overcome, a symbol that, if looked at in the right light, made us stronger as a people; am I to believe that this was removed, possibly destroyed, so that SWAPO can get a couple of extra votes, and rally people against one another? One way or the other, this uncalled for action has again widened the already gaping racial-discrimination hole in our society. As much as countless journalists, activists, musicians, artists, comedians, poets, actors, writers, teachers and religious figures try endlessly to unite Namibians of all color, and propagate the idea of an effective, prosperous rainbow nation that we all desperately crave for, the Government, through actions like these, is working in retaliation, in resistance of not only progress, but peace and socio-stability; which are by definition their most fundamental responsibilities. I assume that it is this feeling of injustice that has prompted so many to react. L
