Save the date.

"Siùil a Rùin" is a traditional Irish folk song with English and Gaelic lyrics. We have been singing this song together since middle school, so naturally, we had to put it in our album! Big shout out to our music teacher, Mrs Gresko, for bringing us together and introducing us to this beautiful song in the first place.
Fun fact: Our arrangement of "Siúil a Rúin" includes one of our favourite chords: a Picardy third.

Starting right where "Maybe" left off, "Sunrise" is an affirmation for all those struggling with mental health issues. Hope is real. Happiness is possible. There is light in the darkness.
Fun fact: The soaring vocal run in the chorus was created by accident. Stephanie had a brilliant idea, and we raced to record it before the spark disappeared.

Touching on a very serious, very personal subject, "Maybe" is an open letter to the loved ones we've lost to su***de. It channels grief, pain, and survivor's guilt and puts it in ballad form, expressing a deep yearning for what might have been.
Fun fact: The lyrics for the chorus were initially set to a much different instrumental track but were scrapped because the song's tone wasn't the right fit for the lyrical theme.

As this song expresses, it's become too easy to hide behind an online identity. Sometimes that identity harms others, and sometimes it comes full circle to hurt the person who created it. "Ones and Zeros" is a call to experience the real world first and a reminder not to put too much stock in likes and comments.
Fun fact: We record Stephanie's vocals last for many reasons, including distance. This track was the one we recorded in the least amount of time.

The night sky is enough of a reason to write a song, but "Rearrange the Stars" is a heartfelt ballad that challenges its permanence. In an industry full of bright, sunny love songs, this one thrives in the starlight.
Fun fact: The line "gravity we defy" near the end of the first verse is a subtle nod to one of our favourite musicals, Wicked, and its most famous song.

We're saying everything we never got to say to our high school queen-of-mean bullies with "When Gold Turns to Rust", which is heavily flamenco-influenced, from the guitar strumming right down to the castanets. It's one of our favourites!
Fun fact: We did a good bit of research on the chord progressions and rhythms of flamenco music while composing the instrumental track.

Writing and arranging an a ca****la piece is challenging, but we both love the result of "Ghosts", produced entirely with just our voices. The lyrics explore the thoughts and feelings of relationship abuse survivors and their struggle to be heard.
Fun fact: The recording, editing, and production process for "Ghosts", even though it was split over several weeks, totalled over fourteen solid hours.

One of the first songs we recorded for this album was "Wanderlust", a bossa nova-inspired track infused with our desire to travel. It was also the first single from Curtain Rising to be released.
Fun fact: When Stephanie first suggested a bossa nova piece, Rae did not know what bossa nova was. Twenty-four hours later, the first draft of the entire instrumental track for Wanderlust was complete.

Just two best friends who make music together . . . That's Dyad!

Experimenting with synths and electronica led to the creation of "Start a War", which expresses the trepidation and fear associated with letting your guard down and allowing someone past your defences.
Fun fact: In the concept stage of writing, the working title for "Start a War" was "Fight or Flight".

Is Throwback Thursday still a thing?

What did we do when we wanted to start Curtain Rising off with a bang? Choose "Alive" as the opening track, of course! We had so much fun with the unusual time signature and the layering of vocal tracks in the bridge. This song is anthemic for all musicians. It's all about the joy of creating music and the rush that comes with performing.
Fun fact: Our album title came from one of the lines in the first verse of "Alive".
